I have got a big problem, I have a leak from my head gasket towards the back left of the engine, The oil light came on yesterday, so I checked the oil and it was on minimum although I checked it on friday last week and it was fine. Has anyone else had this problem? I got a quote for the head gasket set from Mercedes and GSF and Mercedes were £70.84inc VAT and GSF were £24.50 for the Head set, £12.75 for the bolts and £6.45 for the Valve Stem Seals, all are Plus VAT. I Am going to try Euro Car Parts tomorrow morning. Problem with this is I have to have a car for work and I have heard this job can take 2-4 days depending if I did it after work each day. This is a major problem, so I thought as I need the car I would get a price to have it fitted at the stealership as it would be quicker. But at £728inc. VAT plus skimming if needed :o, I don't think I will be going there. I Will Definitely be doing it myself, with my dad(mb190e) of course Has anyone changed a head gasket in less time when you dont have days off? Cheers Nick |

ISTR it took me about an afternoon to change mine on the 2.6, that was without a helper and with a whole lot of swearing - that head is heavy when you're leant over the bonnet!! |

The best thing really is to buy a Haynes manual and read through it. That will tell you the basics. |

I got a price from Euro Car Parts and it cost £30.01 for the head gasket set and the valve guide seals. German made aswell, so quality not crap, so I got it, or got my dad to get it on the way home from work I have spoken to my grandad who used to own a garage and he used to work on a lot of 190/190E's when they were only a few years old, so he is going to help me do the head gasket. It is going to cost me £38.00 to have the head skimmed within 24 hours, but well worth it to do a proper job. Cheers for the replies Nick |
