Hi all

Replaced the thermostat a couple of days ago, which solved the problem of cold heater air. However today the problem re-appeared. Just returning from a 120 mile round trip when the car interior went very cold, and all the vents were blowing cold air. The temp guage had risen very slightly, but was in a traffic jam. I'm wondering if there's an air lock in the heater matrix. Although it ran fine for 2 days. Any suggestions?

Certainly sounds like an air-lock to me....

Forgive this if it's preaching to the converted but the best way to 'bleed' the air locks is to run the engine with the header tank cap off, dash heater on full blow and full heat for about 5 minutes. Also, keep an eye on the coolant level over a period of a few days - a leaky heater matrix can draw air in as well as leak water out.

Once you have done this and replaced the thermostat, the only thing left is a blocked engine rad and that happened to me. £105 sorted it out and works great now - my car would not warm up at all if you ran it on the motorway but run really hot in traffic - blocked, falling apart engine rad so just give it all a look.

Best of luck fella, come back if you have no such luck and i'll try to dig deeper for you.

Phil.
