Me and Lynn just spent the day cleaning the 2.6 kicked off with the engine compartment which had years of grime under the bonnett. Now very chuffed, it came up far better than expected. I used Jizer, similar to gunk, pored some into a an old window cleaner spray bottle, then totally saturated the engine & compartment areas. Left it soaking whilst I had a coffee, then power washed it off. This really did an excellent job, some really stubborn grime I just repeated the process again on the affected areas. Then really tight and awkward places the power washer head couldn't reach, I used a domestic steam cleaner. Ended up with a very clean looking engine & compartment.

When I moved the car there was a an astonishing ammount of gunk and grime left in the spot we cleaned it. So this really has done a good job.

Then I tackled the boot compartment, stripping all carpet and plastic; rubber boot srtip, and gave it all the works, Steam cleaned the carpets, cleaned and re-Blackened all the boot trim & rubber. looked brand spanking new when all put back together and finished. These cars clean up so well. I was also heartened that no rust was aparrent in the boot area, but still gave the floor area and lower inner back wings a spray coat of Waxol for future protection.

Has any one noticed the 2 flap vants situated behind the rear plastic boot trim, obviously for ventilation, but the plastic covers them?

I diversify, anyway! that's the 2 worst areas of the car done, just have to tart up some bits of the engine, rocker cover, air filter cover etc

Just a tip, this Jizer, and gunk is fantastic stuff for cleaning rubber hoses and other rubber products on the car. Just use it neat on a cloth and rub it in. Works better using Microfibre cloths. (Fantastic product) It will also do some plastic products too, trim, bumpers etc as good as Black to Black products, but always do a small test area first. A five litre tin of Jizer cost me £14.00 this much would last years, but I have lorries to do also. I used just over half a litre though, to do all this work.

The other thing I've done is remove front grille and spray paint it satin Black. Looks far better than the standard dull Grey, well I like it anyway :)

I'll try to get some photos soon on here on Monday, as I can use my brothers camera then, which is a top range thingy so gives excellent quality snaps.

Also do members use microfibre cloths for car cleaning. If you don't you're missing out on a great cleaning product ;)

Good news on the grill, I think it always looks much smarter. I find back to black only works for a couple of weeks.

I dont use a microfibre cloth but I know i should. I waxed my car for the first time last week so I certainly wouldnt say I am a master cleaner :)

I know the boot vents your talking about, aparently they can flap and rattle causing an odd noise thats har dto find where its coming from. Never had it myself though.

Count me in as a Microfibre fan / user.
The thickest ones are perfect for the engine bay, and the really thin peachskin
type are good to have handy in the car for doing the insides of windows.

As for jetwashing your bay, that's quite drastic!
Can't wait to see pics Julian. ;)

Pics tomorrow, hopefully, meant to be today but got sidetracked. Jet washing went fine, I regularily jet washed my 2.0 and never had a problem, also the engine bay was extremely grimy. Did some more cleaning today and spray painted the air filter cover Black. My brother suggested a K & N air filter (Chrome), looked on a site selling them, and am very tempted. Has anyone used these on their 190 especially a 2.6, and where does the breather pipe end up, which feeds the rocker cover.
Also what happens with the air intake?

TOP TIP, Next time you clean the engine bay do it round your mates house on his drive, then just drive off without noticing. :D :D

Hi rich

Well had to occupy myself whilst she warmed up  Good meal too, as the restaurant forgot to charge for a nice bottle of Red at £12 quid or so. I would have normally have been honest and told them, but they hiked the meal prices up for Vt's nite, which I considered was blatant profiteering. So left with a big smile on face :)

Below the link for K&N filters, but i'm unsure how to fit these with regard to rocker cover air pipe, but the site does suggest their ok for a 190E 2.6 not being mechanically minded though, i'm a bit in the dark.

Cheers Julian.
Glad you had fun in the resteraunt.

Are you sure that your 2.6 is on a Carb?

I`m only asking those filters arnt suitable for mine as I have a 2ltr with fuel injection, I could just get an element for inside the housing but it wont look as good.
Dam shame, I love the look of the K&N`s

Yeah just been reading through, mine's fuel injection. They look great though, can't see why they don't design them for injection models though. Said I wasn't mechanically minded

I need to replace the bonnet insulation pad, read the thread on this but couldn't find mention of cost for a new one from MB anyone bought one recently?

Also have the same problem with the padding on the bulkhead, is this affixed with glue also like bonnet pad, and any idea of cost of that pad?
