My car originally came with aircon which has been ripped out by the previous owner. Ever since I changed the rad for a new shiny one I havent liked the way you can see the shiny rad through the grill. Not a problem, I figured I would fit the old aircon fans back on (without the aircon rad) Direct to the main rad. I love the madmax styleee twin fans of the aircon models. Anyway, how much air do these chaps push ? Would they be enough to cool the engine on thier own ? And what kind of gain can be expected from removing the viscous fan ? I assume the alternator would pull more which in turn would cause drag on the belt, is it really going to give a gain ? |

I dont think you'll have a problem with your alternator or drag on the belt by removing the engine driven fan, but it is a one less parasitic loss on the engine, especially when the fan is engaged. (exactly when you don't need an extra load on the engine...) If you can get two decent fans that will cover as much area of the rad as possible, then I think you will have sufficient cooling. |
