Sinse cleaning up the engine bay, the bit that's bugging me is the exhaust manifold, rusty looking. Been looking on the net, and came across POR-20 silver. Anyone used this, or can reccommend anything else. Have looked on the forum under exhausts, but nowt on painting them. |

Just painted mine while I had it off waiting for the head to come back, just give it a good clean, get all of the grease off (if any). Wire brush it all, then clean up with degreasing wipes, I used some hand cleaning wipes and then I shoved some rag in the holes and then basically just spray it with High Temp. Paint, halfords is only £5.99 for an idiot can!
You probably already know all this anyway, just thought I would add it incase. |

No worries, i want to paint it but whilst it's connected, so a brush paint would be preffered, although i suppose taking it wouldn't be that difficult, and easier to clean up when off. The nuts or bolts seem quite corroded though, i'm not sure how east it would be

exhaust manifold studs can often turn out to be a can of worms, each worm holding another can of worms.... and so on. You could probably mask off everything else and still use a rattle can. |

Beginning to think masking off is the easier way, bit fiddley, but would get a better finish

I actually went for red to be different, I haven't put it on yet, will get pics when it is on. It may sound silly putting a red manifold on a blue car, but I think it will make the engine bay look tidier and stand out. My dad, mb190e painted his a little while ago with a brush in black, it turned out pretty good, I just wanted to be different
Thought somebody would notice that part   |

Mine and my dads looked like they were rusted on but got them off fairly easily. As you mentioned, a hell of a lot easier when it is off, other wise you miss parts and can't clean it properly, getting in all the knooks and crannies. I wanted to do mine a while ago, but waited until I had to take it off for something else. Then my head gasket went so I have just done it.

Can i just point out that you must buy some decent paint and none of this halfords temp paint as it is rubish. The manifolds on the 2.6 is not too bad but on a 16v gets very very hot indeed, Just make sure your 2.6 manifold is ultra clean and aparently is always best to wire brush to shiny metal. Just stick with lots of layers and just use the whole can. I used 2 on mine and it was baby ass smooth

Cheers cossie I've ordered some very high temp aerosol 950 f 500c not the hottest, but some good feedback about the stuff. I have to paint them whilst attached, but will give them a real good scrub with wire brush as you suggest. the manifold nuts are fluffy with rust, so need to get a small wire brush to get around them nicely. would love to take them off, but too much hassle at the mo, as need to sort other things. Thanks again though

I used to have bbq paint on my grille. Its a really nicce satin. Welly paint works better on grilles and handles but I doubt it could stand the temp of the manifold. |
