Hi, just bought a 1985 190 4 door, conversion by RUDE Mercs of london, Bright red with a RUDE merc body kit, Alloys and a Convertible mohair roof. No idea why I bought it ! It seems very solid but does need a respray, the dash is cracked and the interior is worn . Thinking of a replacement dash and fitting a SH leather interior plus general tidy round etc.Drives well but no mot at the moment. Anyone know anything about the old gal? Is it worth spending a few quid on? Would much appreciate any advice, tips etc :help: Cheers David

If it's the one that was on eBay recently (could there be more than one?) you may see some comments about the car in the For Sale section.

The convertible conversions (cabrio umbau) of that nature were not very popular, although there are BMWs and other sport sedans that were converted. More popular were the full convertible treatments what converted the 4 door to a drophead coupe.

javea,

Interesting car. Must be a one off. Someone must know the history of this thing.

I wondered why someone would go to the considerable expense on a basic 2.0 manual. Better to have spent the conversion money on a loaded 2.6 or even a Cossie. Similar in many ways to a Baur 3 Series look.

Let us know how the MOT goes. Hope there are no surprises.

I'm only really here for the Kitchens

welcome to the forum, I would love to see the car in person some time, it looks like its a quality build.

I just love the front arches, remind me a bit of M3 arches but I reckon they look great on the 190.

You can tighten up the nets on the back of the front seats in 5 minutes, it will neaten up the interior no end :) Looks smart though, pretty good for the price if its mechanically sound.

Rude Mercs were based at the junction of Hackney Road and Cambridge Heath Road
in East London. The original business was a true custom Mercedes setup where people
took their cars for everything from new grille or rims to a full-on body conversion like yours.

They now go my the name of Rude, and do not specialise in Mercedes.
They don't tune or work on cars, just sales. Import stuff, Toyota & Lexus etc.

Last time i went in asking about 190 stuff they treated
me like a 5-year-old. Hopefully it would be a different story if you showed up in that motor...

Hes a trader and took it a few times , he put on a few bits cleaned it up , put on the rims as it ony had 15's , not sure what else he did , quite a neat car, but true not the most desirable model bit like the baur bmw never really looked right!

Hi,

I know this post is old but I know some history of the 190E.

I have the sister to this one, There were two made by Rude, the red one and a black one that I own.
I have kept mine in a garage for a long while now and just started to get it back out, The car is good condition.

The was only two of these made I believe by Rude,
The red one is 190E 2.0l 16v 4-door convertible and I have the 190E black 2.5l 16v Cosworth Auto 4-door Leather Convertible Soft top.
