I have just changed the head gasket, just put it all back together and when I started it I get a big whining noise, which increases with acceleration. I have a had a look at the Haynes manual and it says it could be the inlet manifold gasket leaking, and the noise is coming from around the inlet manifold. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this before? Cheers Nick |

Ok, after taking the injectors back off to get to the manifold studs, I still have not been able to get the noise to go, so not sure where it is coming from now, I have recorded the sound in.wav format to see if anyone here knows what it is. Cheers http://www.modifiedride.co.uk/whiningnoise.wav |

We checked that, what do you think if we took the belt right off and run it for a few seconds to see if it still whines? |

Could do, but only for a few seconds as you wont be running the water pump etc without the belt. |

Worth a try. It sounds more mechanical than air related in your recording! Have you got a bit of tubing you can listen through? Its often easier to locate noises this way! |

took the belt off, and it is still the same. I think we will call it a day and have a look for air leaks, we used a screwdriver to test for vibrations and noises and the noise is coming from the inlet manifold, so maybe will have to look into that a bit further? The gasket is new though and the bolts are as tight as they will go, weird huh?
Cheers for the help |
