A good while before christmas I send my camshaft off to Newman Camshafts to get a regrind to a fast road camshaft. Fortunately for me, they made a slight mistake which scrapped my old cam.. They were to source another one for me and start again. I was concerned that I would get another old second hand one that might be fairly worn, and by the time it was reprofiled, I would have to use shims etc to get the correct contact between the shaft & valves as its overall diameter would be quite small.. However just spoke to them today (now that I have the head back - oh yeah, I have my head back, another thread on that soon enough ) asking about my cam. Well he sourced me a brand new blank cam shaft from Turkey of all places. Pattern part of course but should be decent quality. So not only do I get a brand new cam, he is profiling it from scratch rather than regrinding and old worn cam, so it will be of the same size as the original, (albeit with the different profile) so I wont have to use any shims etc.. just some new valve springs & the fiddly bits and Im sorted.. Chuffed!

sounds great can't wait to hear what your power gains are and how big the smile is on your face afterwards I have always wondered what gains a couple of performance cams would make in my 2.3-16?

All will be revealed July 7th, dyno at Retro show
Newman Cams reckon the cam is worth maybe 7-9% more power from around 2500rpm upwards, the gains tailing off then from around 5500... Perfect for my engine I think. Although am hoping to add another 1000rpm to my redline with the block work and the carbs.. :ph43r: Of course it will be more than the some of its parts... You should check out some cams for yours mate, especially if you are considering future engine work. Then they are most definitely on the list. Squeeze every little bit of power out, thats one of my mantra's... |
