Its probably the belt! Try retensioning it. A new pump will be working harder than your old one causing the belt to slip a little! |

If the engine is up to temperature the water pump housing will be hot! assuming you have power steering. locate the adjustment bolt, looking from the front of the car it is just behind the adjuster pully on the bracket that holds the power steering pump. It is a long tube with the nut on the top. Next locate the tensioner scale(graduations) which are behind the P/Steering pulley on the moving arm of the adjuster (you will need a torch). They will need cleaning off so you can see them clearly. They should be reading on the 8th or 9th mark from the left. You can tension this a little more but if you go beyond the 9th graduation the belt needs changing! You may see an arrowhead and a thick line. If tensioning takes the arrow beyond the line you have to change the belt! Tensioner springs do wear and they can be a sod to change. if the setting looks right then I would personally rather buy a new belt than play around with the tensioner!!! |
