Pot No.2 running hot

Did an oil change and replaced the rocker gasket this weekend on my 2.3-16v. It took ages because the previous mechanic (butcher) had used a silicone based gasket glue which needed removing and had to grind out screw driver gouges from cylinder head.

I spotted the access to spark plug 2 was discoloured and removing the plug confirmed it's been running hot. I then spotted the bolts holding the cam bearing cap down (cap No.8 adj cylinder 2) were loose!!!!

Will this be the cause of pot2 running hot? Engine is now running fine (wasn't bad before just losing oil from the rocker cover).

What should I do next.
Replace the head gasket just in case
or Get valve clearences checked
or Complete top end rebuild (head skim, new valves, guides etc)

Any suggestions please... Andi

Valve clearances and a compression check would be a good idea. The first to make sure the idiot didn't set them without tightening the apropriate bolts and the second to see if any damage was done!

Cheers Ben good call,

Do you think the loose bearing cap is responsible for pot 2 running hot?

If when you tightened it up it made the tappets quieter I would say possibly!

I would keep an eye on the plug and see if its still happening. Our 2.5s run best on the OEM Beru plugs!!
