1.8 to 2.3 cosworth?

hi just wondering how hard it would be to to drop in a 2.3 cossy lump? any ideas, i just brought a 1993 1.8 manual minter, i love her to pieces but would love more power, i'am a mechanic, and have dont a number of conversions but just wondering if anyone has done it? or has any ideas

I haven't done it myself, but if you're a mechanic and have done conversions before yourself then in theory you should find it one of the easier ones. You'd want a donor car ideally as you'll need some computers, Fuel pump relay, wiring loom and stuff like that. Gearbox too almost certainly.

The hardest bit would probably be finding a good engine. If that proved a problem you do have the option of fitting the 2.3 8 valve from a W124 E-class. Would get you 136bhp and lots more torque, which isn't too shabby at all. Would be an easier swap again. The basic engine blocks of the 1.8, 2.0, 2.3, 2.3-16 and 2.5-16 are the same.

You need to change the wiring loom aswell.

It's a great idea, and definitely feasible.
The 2.3-16 came with a Getrag Dog-Leg manual 'box as
standard - i'm assuming you would want the manual?
Your current manual 'box wouldn't be suitable.
Good luck though, how about some pics of your motor ;)
