So far as I am aware, no. I have heard people say you can't do it, but never with any specific proof for why not... so maybe you can and we can all be proven wrong? For the money you'd spend (typically £300 minimum for a budget/crap chip), I would put it towards a full EFI setup, as I feel the Jetronic is a bit of a liability and a hindrance, especially on somethign like the Evo engine. No real technical basis for this, though... |

There used to be a unit called 'K-star' available, this was a 'piggyback' unit which used the cold start enrichment circuit to provide additional fuelling; it was (correctly) mapped on a rolling road, with reference to an air/ fuel monitor shoved up the tailpipe, but did not have any ignition adjustment available..lots went on to hot VW's too (Golf etc) and quite a few other K-jet equipped cars (there are, surprisingly, a lot!!), so if you are desperate, perhaps a peek at those?? Similar units have also been successfully used in certain turbo applications (e.g. Mosselman), however I think all seem to be discontinued. The answer seems to be to 'retrofit' EFI to the car, and completely remove the entire K-jetronic system.. |

Thats what these so called "chips" do that you can buy from ebay. They are a 5p resister that you plug into the airflow meter. They fool the ECU into thinking the engine is cold all the time so it gives you a rich mixture all the time  Just sounds like the car will use more fuel to me as its constantly running as if its on cold startup  And they charge you over a tenner for these so called "chips" Stu |

Stu, I think you are confusing this with the 'rich mixture' resistor trick; I used a K-star with a mate to tune his turbo 16v Scirocco. It is a 'proper' ECU, and as such should be correctly set up This style of 'piggyback' ECU should not be confused with a so-called 'plug-in guarenteed 20% more power' jobbie.. Carl |

Yeah, defo.. until he went 'radical' on the cylinder head porting, and had too much space to fill with mixture; in the end, we went with a modest 5th injector set-up, on standalone control (Omex or Lumenition I think)..we converted it fairly simply as I recall to work 'closed loop' with a lamda probe, was excellent as acceleration enrichment, but I digress..the K-star worked really well together with the usual filter/ cam/ exhaust changes, and even with some fairly serious port and flow work really seemed to do the job. . Something for you guys to think about? |

You can re-programme the K-Jetronic ECU as Carlsson used to do it along with their 16v head modifications. |

in 2005 i spoke to a guy who used to own an EVO2 that reprogrames the ECU's for about £250. i was gana source a spare 16v ECU and send that too him but i told the guy of my then plans for my engine upgrades and he told me that the ECU mods would be for a standard car only as modding the car will change the characteristics of the engine. Now he told me to come back after the mods and he would be able to reprogram the ECU and fine tune it with the mods. He said with a standard engine you can get about 7 to 12 bhp out of it but with the engine mods done and done properly you can get 12 to 20 bhp out of the engine. You would hae to adjust other things too in the engine bay to make sure everything is ballanced but it can be done by someone who knows what they are doing. Unfortunatly i lost the guys details last year and have not been able to find the company again but there will probably be others out there who will do the same. I personally think £250 with a couple of trips on a rolling road with an expert is well worth it as though the gains are not great they are there nontheless |

Again, for that sort of money I'd rig up a 5th injector on standalone.. |

Hello guys, I have an 2.5-16v 204 ph and there is an adjustment module next to the KE-Jetronic Box ( behind the battery ), with numbers from 1 to 7. As i know they are different maps for the KE ( Number 1 is standar working ). Does anybody know the meaning of the other numbers ?? Thanks and best regards !! |
