Hi Folks I've been looking for my first Mercedes (long time admirer) for a couple of weeks now. I'm looking for a 190e and have been soaking up as much info as I can before I buy. I've just looked at a 1989 G reg 190e 2.0l saloon and was wanting a quick bit of advice, here's the lowdown: 119k on the clock, all electrics work, drives well, has duplex chain, autobox seems good with smooth changes and good kickdown, no rust anywhere (not even boot channels and arches). I managed to time it so I got to start it from stone cold and it had a bit of trouble on cold idle and kept cutting out for the first minute of stationary running. Also it blew a bit of white smoke when I gave it a good rev but then ran clean and smooth once done. What do you all reckon? He wants £950 for it but is a used Saab dealer so could probably take a fair bit off that with the waving of some cold hard cash. Cheers |

Hello and welcome
Defo try and get the price down a bit as it sounds like your goinfg to have to sort a few things out. Unless you can get the dealer to sort it for you but i doubt that tbh. The rough running could be the cold start valve not working so that needs sorting. Anyway, good luckj with it. Stu |

Try and look at a few more if possible. But its swings and roundabouts. Some have great bodies but fecked engines and some have great engines but fecked bodies !!! It just depends which you'd rather spend your hared earned cash on. In my case its both unfortunatly   But i got the car at a price i just couldnt refuse Stu |

Yeah, I've looked at a few and it does seem it's either one or the other. Thanks for the advice, I'm going to hold out for a good one I think. |

Malco, where in the UK are you? Looks like I'll be selling my 91 H 2.0e AUTO. I am not saying it's perfect but with leather and wroking aircon it's pretty special. I am in Yorkshire - if this is interesting for you let me know and I can send you pics and details. cheers Adam |
