ok so ive took a chance and replaced my rear screen due to the rear demister being being useless.(only couple bars live)
and the new screen typically has 3 dead bars right in my field of vision ^o) .

i dont want to have the rear screen out all over again,so im going to try to repair it.
ive tried this stuff

http://washford.scene7.com/is/image/Washford/190363?$PDP_MAIN$

and its useless !! brush is too thick and its like water.and just runs all over the place.
can anyone recommend a good electricity conducting paint? .preferably in a pen form??

Bought some proper windscreen sealant, cleaned out all the old crap from under the seal with a strong scraper, injected the sealant in, treated the rust and hey presto...window is now sealed! Yay!

Did I read correct. you have to put the trim on before the glass goes into the rubber. For example everything is separated

1. Put trim into rubber.
2. Put glass into rubber.
3. Put sealent around the window
4. Insert window using nylon string while someone puts a bit of pressure on from outside.

Are these the correct steps or are 1 and 2 meant to be the other way around.

That could explain why I was having such a hard time yesterday. I put the glass in first then tried to put on the trim. I didn't think there would be enough slack in the rubber with the trim on first.

sadly the trim wont fit with the glass and rubber fitted
you will have to pop the window out again fit the trim to the rubber seal re fit that to the glass then refit it all as one unit :-/

Gonna give it a bash again tomorrow. See if it'll fit better. Still unsure about fitting the window. Might just get a professional in to do that part

Can you spray something like wd40 on the rubber to help make the window slide in a little easier after putting on the trims. Can't quite get it right. It's like it all needs to shift to the side about 5mm and I can't get it

Hi all,

I have been looking for this part rubber pad 0019870460 for the windshiel that fits into the lower and upper metal trim for the windshield. Tried Ecs and http://www.mbpartsworld.com/ but not available. Any idea where to source this? Do I actually need this rubber pad or would sealat be just as good? Thanks!

Cheers,

Olie

Hell o,
Just to clearly clarify .......If i am re-sealing the rear screen but not replacing the rubber seal do the metal garnish mouldings stay on? Do they remain un-touched while removing AND reinstalling the screen?

If i was to replace the rubber seal would the metal garnish mouldings remain on until the screen is out and be put back on prior to reinstalling the screen?
Thanks for your patience
D.

yes for this bit. Metal trim bits should go on first, then the seal installed.
Even if reusing the seal, if removing the screen it'd be best to remove any crusty hard old sealant stuck to either the metal or seal, and put on some non-bonding sealant (e.g. 3M's 08509) to make the seal tight on reinstallation.

Best Regards,
