Hi there I am new to Mercedes 190's and wondered what mpg I should be getting under town and then motorway driving 70 - 80 mph from a 1.8 manual? Shes a 1992 car with 75,000 miles. Thanks John |

That seems quite low evo. I get at least 325 from a tank (Fuel light on) in the 2.6 using between 60 and 65 litres. Last fill up I got 351 miles for 65.1 litres this included a 140 mile round trip half of it on dual carriageway. The 2.6 likes long speedy runs though  I check my fuel consumption on every fill up, one of those quirky things id do religiously. and ever sinse I,ve had the car it's done between 22 and 26 mpg. I think the 1.8 is quite juicy if that's normal. I reckon on a 400 mile motorway run the 2.6 would do 30+ mpg My old 2.0 was always between 25 and 33 mpg, although 33 mpg was only achieved on 450+ mile runs to Scotland at steady speed. |

I could be wrong ,but I don`t think the 1.8 has a 70litre fuel tank, best way is to always work on the fuel used, not by the tankfull. Ian |

We have 50-litre tanks in the 1.8 & 2.0 cars
I calculated the tank range on fuel used, i just never bother doing the MPG maths! The last time i did, it was around 28-29mpg for a 220-mile run involving about 10 miles through hideous stop-start traffic in London followed by an average of about 75mph up 2 unnnamed M-ways :ph43r:  I have in the past done the exact same run in 3 hours dead, door-to-door... |

I thought so as well, until last summer when I managed to get 52,5l in it So now I'm thinking it's 55l, or maybe I got ripped off pretty badly by the petrol station

Yeah they have 55l tank. My 2.6 does too. I sruggle to get near 200 miles from mine but 90% of that is to and from work. The other 10% is pure lead footed fun

Deffinetly 55 litre tank, I once just made it to the petrol station with my car just about to cut out and splutting, pulled in, filled it to the brim and it took exactly 55.25 litres just before it wanted to spill out. |

Read your instruction manual - it's 55L !! The fuel light comes on when there's 7L left. |

320 miles on a 55L tank works out at about 26.5mpg. Not great! I have a feeling that a 2.3 8v may be one of the most economical 190 motors out there, as it should provide the balance between torque, and low front-end weight. Less effort required to pull the car, but not excessive. Whadya reckon? |

My 1.8 manual is 28-30 mpg and I probably get around 350 miles out of a full tank, the reserve light goes on around 280miles thats with shell ordinary unleaded. |

I've no idea and dont think I want to know what mine does, especially with the added drag from the kit and the wieght of my install. Somethings are best kept secret.  |

I've got a 2.0 auto (1989) just done 298 miles on 55.4 litres, normal unleaded with a shot of redex and a mixture of urban and m'way driving - so I guess that's about 25mpg. Expensive! |

Oh and just checked tyre pressures - one was down to 14psi, so that's quite a good place to start if your consumption is excessive i think... |
