Hi, i recently went mad and sold my old tr7 DHC to buy something a bit different, looking an ebay i saw a nice looking 190e, bidded and won. great but the car looked like it had done 50,000 at least from when the photo's on ebay were taken. rattles like a good un and head gasket throwing oil into water big time. one slick tyre - one quite badly rusted wheel arch - buggered fuel pump relay - wrong air filter box(must be off a different mb it fits the airflow but all breathers not fitting) - ignition barrel broken -etc etc etc. :(
so busy old me. came across this site and i'm very impressed so thought would join in and when tips are required i know where to look. still least i can't complain about being bored now, one 190e to restore to something like it's original condition (this could take quite a while). will post photo's when get time.
p.s hi to everyone!!!!!!!!!
:driver:
forgot to mention the deep scratch running the full length of bonnet, roof, rear window+boot.

Welcome to the madhouse! As Marcus says, there's plenty of advice and help here.

Have you got any pics of the TR7? I love them cars, they're up there on my future 'wish list' along with a scimitar SE6!

Cheers, Martin

Sorry to hear about your motor, just bought a 190 myself.

If you happen to need a pair of rear arches I can get them at a very good price for you, as well as front wings at a super competitive rate - had a look whilst ordering a front end for my mates mini! they do grille surrounds and clear lenses too.

Let us know how you get on.

Hiya.

I am also sorry to here about that :( Is there a way to report these kind of things in ebay?

Richy I think I might be interested in rear arch prices if you are happy to share the contact.

Not sure yet if I can get by with my current wings.

If i hadn't got the train all the way to cardiff from cornwall - i maybe wouldn't have done - i did leave the seller bad feedback, not much else could do - will be ok for the arch's - nothing that a bit of welding and body filler won't sort out. i would put pic of the mb and tr7 if i could work out how to do it. not too good on the old pc sometimes (no engine!), there are some positives, other than the noisy tappit and head gasket it's in good order, nice alloys, zender spoiler, interior in good nick apart from a door card(having read through alot of postings i know the easy fix now). will make a great car when finished. it will get a respray at some point was thinking of one of the two tone paints that change colour as you pass - what doe you think??? thanks for the replies...

that would have been ideal, unfortunately at the time i was blissfully unaware that this site existed. with hindsight the car would probably still be in cardiff. thanks though....

Welcome Glenn, sorry to hear about your bum deal.

My advice to you is this:
Never, ever 'flip-paint' a Mercedes-Benz.
Doesn't work, leave it to the Civic/Corsa/Prelude kids.

We love 'project' pictures, please let us know how you get on this summer! ;)

I'm only really here for the Kitchens

I reckon work on the merc until its running how it should and everything works, by then you may find your view has changed (mine did). If not then go for it, we may have had more time with the 190s but I am guessing you have far more experience of being you and what you like in a car.

Anything you need post in the wanted section or look in the for sale section, most of us have garages (or kitchens in my case) full of merc parts. And obviously ask away, we love showing off when we actually know something !!

£300 for a working 190 isnt too bad, getting bits done can be far cheaper than expected.

love the tr7 by the way, angles all over the place, just how I like it :)

ps. I am not a fan of flip paint either but many are not a fan of my daily driver (3.0 in sig). The police for one :)

I've been messing with cars for years but they are getting more and more complex - hence i like older cars

already love the 190, got relay sorted thanks to a posting on this site so got kickdown now (too cowardly to use it with relay gone) and boy it smoked some at first, but stopped soon enough. prob just needed a good blast they usually do now and then to clear their throats.

many thanks for all the suggestions and making me feel welcome, its really appreciated. :)

if anyone has any tips or does and dont's when changing head gasket that would be a great help. (got haynes manual but can't beat first hand knowledge)

one more thing - when i put her into gear(auto) she shakes - do ya think engine lumpy (needing injection parts cleaning & tuning) or gearbox bearings - maybe engine mounts ????????

am i askin on the wrong part of the site?

no more questions now or you'll all be sick of me in no time. :P

cheers all..

Glenn, at the end of the day it's your car, not mine - if you want to change the colour of
the car then our 190 Pictures galleries should provide acres of inspiration...
There aren't any rules around here, cars are welcome modded to the hilt or completely standard.
The reason i advised against flip-paint is that it only ever seems to work properly
on quite 'blobby' curvy jelly-mould cars - something our beloved 190 certainly ain't!

Kenny, i love your 3.0!

Do the head gasket before you adjust anything, the rough running could be down to the head gasket and nothing else.

unfortunately for me, i sold it. needed summat with 4 seats, it just wasn't practical and i couldn't afford two cars at once. if i'd had a a garage i would've kept it but cornish weather (rain rain rain) and triumphs don't mix! love the pics of your benz it looks awesome. hopeing mine looks like that one day..
