Thanks

On the downpipe you will have a box, on the box check that it has a oxygen sensor going to it, if you have then its a cat.

Here: look at the top of the drawing you will see what the cat looks like.

I need to order a dist cap and rotor arm and gsf seem to be the cheapest. Here is the list of available ones :

M91020 DISTRI.CAP-SPRING FITTING 201: 190E 82>93 102 -Cat.
M91020 DISTRI.CAP-SPRING FITTING 201: 190 82>89 102

M91025 DISTRIB.CAP-SCREW FITTING 201: 190E 89>93 102 +Cat.
M91025 DISTRIB.CAP-SCREW FITTING 201: 190E 89>93 1.8 102
M91025 DISTRIB.CAP-SCREW FITTING 201: 190E 82>89 2.3 16v 102 COSWORTH
M91025 DISTRIB.CAP-SCREW FITTING 201: 190E 89>93 2.5 16v 102 COSWORTH
M91035 DISTRIBUTOR CAP 201: 190E 2.6 103.942 09/86>08/93

92205 IGNITION ROTOR ARM 201: 190 82>89 102
92205 IGNITION ROTOR ARM 201: 190E 82>93 102 -Cat.
92218 IGNITION ROTOR ARM 201: 190E 89>93 1.8 102
92218 IGNITION ROTOR ARM 201: 190E 89>93 102 +Cat.
92218 IGNITION ROTOR ARM 201: 190E 89>93 2.5 16v 102 COSWORTH
92218 IGNITION ROTOR ARM 201: 190E 82>89 2.3 16v 102 COSWORTH

Now I know that its a screw fitting dist cap (had it off enough times trying to dry it out) so must be this one - M91025 DISTRIB.CAP-SCREW FITTING 201: 190E 89>93 102 +Cat. - as its a '91 2.0 litre.

So is it safe to assume that my car is equipped with a cat ?

Thanks again

Andy

I would have thought it had a cat, yeah.

Being on a 91.
Just check the downpipes or check for the EZL

Get up off the floor, out from under the car and stop being a silly billy.
The EASIEST way to tell whether your car has a Cat is to lift the bonnet and look for
this dial on the passenger side of the engine bay between the ABS unit and the front shock mount.

If it says EZL-KAT then you have a Cat.
If it says EZL-ECE then you don't...

Ignition Timing i think.
There was an epic thread about it, where the virtues of Super Unleaded
vs 'Normal' vs Shell V-Power and all sorts of other stuff was thrashed out.

This explains it all though, copied from the Owners Manual.

Great!! That means I just need a centre box and not a cat! :D :D

Cheers Lewis, that makes things a bit cheaper! :P

Sorry if it was a dumb question but I'm learning fast...

Cheers, think I've spotted them on gsf or eurocarparts for around £45-50 ish, will have to double check.

At least I'll get rid of that annoying rattle. :)

Its an expansion box which helps to smooth the flow of the gases through the silencers by reducing the intensity of the exhaust pulses. It lets the silencers work more efficiently! It is, as Lewis says, part of the downpipe assembly.

Hi guys,

I need to replace my exhaust system because right now, its bloody loud. Is the centre box absolutely necessary ? I am thinking of just replacing the cat converter and the rear muffler.

sorry to resurrect an old thread, but that switch above for the ignition timing, that is supposed to be between the ABS and the front shock, is not there on my car, should that be the case?

You will not have a CAT then.
Only really late cars had a CAT, circa 1991-93, it was an option on older 190's but never really "opted" for...

Sorry off topic, but I've just realised from that picture that the 190 has a 4-2-1 exhaust system. Which is pretty decent of them :)

Sign of a quality car mate!
Twin reversing lights, Twin Headlamps as standard, 5-arm Multilink rear suspension, proper job!
