Hello and welcome

Yes it is possible to swop over to a cossie center console.
There is one problem, finding a complete cossie center console with the three clocks at the bottom is quite rare, most people just sell the clocks seperate from the console.

Then you have to wire the three clocks in, a common problem is the lap timer bleeds so you wont find one with a working one (only if your lucky).

hi yeh you may find the console easy enought but the lap timer gauge will be difficult and very expensive from the dealer.. ;)

most people replace it with something else

we are all hoping a replacement lcd screen fix can be found

brave man

The best of luck, though i wonder why you want a 16v console in a 1.8?
Are you doing any performance modifications?
I really prefer the console & ashtray in my standard 1.8...

Although you could 'sport' it up a bit, like JoBurger's AMG Limited Edition:

hahax... its almost impossible to add performance upgrade legally here in singapore...

 ... the goverment requires every car owner to go for a check every year...

The dealers mechenic told us he'll arrange for us to do an engine overhaul...
hopefully we'll be able to get approval to bore the engine to 2.2-4l then...
still that will probablly be some time next year...

but the cars interior is like a cab now... so we're try to get it nice and morden 1st...

oh and the reason y i wanna change is....

...it looks like that now...

Just so you know, the standard interior in my first picture is the one
known as the 'Taxi' console - because it has an extra empty DIN-sized slot
for a Taxi meter.

Yours is a standard 'short' or 'hanging' console.

I believe yours is the early console and can easily be upgraded to the later "taxi" console. Its just a matter of finding one.
Also I thought you drove on the same side as us in Singapore (on the left) so why is your car not right hand drive?

I just fitted a "taxi" console last weekend to replace my short console and the fitting couldnt be easier. Looks SO much nicer and with the wood it gives the car the feel of luxery and quality that the interior was missing B)

I just have to sort out the wiring to the fag lighter and ashtray light as the conections are diferent to the ones on the car

I bought it from a member on this site. He let me have it cheap(£10) as the ashtray has a crack in the laqure. But its not that noticable tbh.

Yes they are straight forward to swap over. There are numerous things you can do those as people have mentioned. Personally for my black car thats nearly finished being rebuilt my interior is shaping up along this theme

With full grey leather. All taken from donor cars, initially it had a taxi centre console and black cloth seats. You might find the instructions pinned by Kenny useful for removing sections of the dash as you need to. You can change pretty much anything, i am fairly sure someone here as painted theres silver to match the colour of their car but I could be wrong.

There it is! The quality of the finish is what makes it really. I have seen some efforts at painting interior bits and its looks tatty and hand done. I spent ages making sure my battered old wood bits were smooth then built up some layers and lacquered the top. I will dig out a photo of the interior of one 190 I picked up. Its a gem ;)

If there's one thing which cousin Jerry does not do well, it is wood finishes. Unless you go and spend comical amounts of money putting in real burr walnut (or whatever) then you end up with this horrible photo-printed effect which frankly appals me. And what's the point? My first Merc was a 190SL (£300) in 1974. Steel dash (painted body colour) plain black dials; odd-smelling MB Tex upholstery, etc. It was the best puller I ever drove!

I dont like the woods either, although the brown is real wood when you sand it down!! I always thought it was fake. Anyway heres a peach of an interior ;)

You can see why I am going for a nice subtle interior now where the colours all match!.

Amazingly the steering wheel sold on ebay for £80 and the dash came out and cleaned up a treat. Took a while but I got all the glue and shit off it, found lynx deodorant was good for lifting the glue. Inside of the car smelt a bit for a while!

How much should I pay for a used Cossie center console without gauges or ashtray, but with gaugeholder?
