Hi everyone. Just bought my 190 recently for £350! Bargain. Just need to sort the brakes as the discs are a tad warped! Right off the top of my head i have a few questions and would appreciate it if anyone could answer them. I have th 2.0 auto and im getting about 100 miles to £20 quids worth of petrol
which to me seems very poor. What difference does the swith next the the shifter do that has s and e above and below im guessing this is sport and eco but i dont notice much difference. I took the top off the air box which shocked me as the system seemed very different to anything ive had before. I take it they are injection? and are they 8v? Sorry for such such simple questions but it seems very different the all the other cars ive had and i dont have a haynes manual. cheers.

Hey dude, welcome. If the car is a 190 then the car is an 8v non-fuel injected (ie Carburettored) 2.0l. If the car is a 190E then the car is an 8v fuel injected 2.0l. In my 190E 1.8, the difference between 'E' and 'S' on the autobox is noticeable to anyone who drives it. I get approx 320 miles to a 55 litre tank (same size as yours) witha mix of m-way and city driving. Doesn't sound like yours is too far off the mark, treat it to a full tank of petrol and a dose of STP Injector Cleaner. Haynes helps, but this forum is worth a thousand Haynes imo

Hi Mav & welcome Seems a bit juicy to me I get a lot more than 100miles from my 2.6 for £20 the switch is as you say sport or economy, I always have mine on sport, never noticed any real difference when I did try both. The later 2.0's are injection, older ones carb, not sure the year they changed though. and yes 8v I would be looking at least 130miles for £20 If you use kick down a lot though it will burn it up. At £20 which equates to about 4.6 gallons, you're only getting 21mpg |

its 'standard' when your buying, and 'SPORT' when your selling.... every ebayer knows that I noticed a fair difference between standard and economy. It changes up at lower revs so there will be less torque but better economy. As long as your not flooring it to make up for it it should help a fair bit. On my 2.6 I measured 32mpg on economy driving at similar speeds to 26mpg on sport. If you drive accordingly as well it does help. Best thing to do is chill in eco for a bit, in order to allow you to 'standard' your way through the country lanes I dont think I have been in eco mode since the 3.0 went in.. I have relabelled them Mooch and Hoon

On my car, it's not just the point/rpm where it changes gear that's different, the throttle is more responsive in 'S' too. |

In E mode it will not go above ~3500rpm before changing up (except when the kickdown switch is used). My switch was recently not working. If the switch fails it will 99% likely fail in 'Standard' mode. Pull up the wood gearbox selector surround. Unscrew the 4 screws at the corners of the black plate around the gear selector lever. Remove top of E/S switch. Lift the black plate off. Wiggle the switch out, unplug. Then prise it apart and make sure not to lose anything. Mine was all gunked up with stuff and the metal contacts were dirty. Cleaned with a screwdriver and instantly it worked properly. Not sure if it changes the fuel consumption all that much... just makes the car slower which I guess should help! I've never noticed much difference though! |

Wicked!! Thanks for all the responce i thought e30zone was a quick forum!! I will try putting some injector cleaner through it to see if that makes a difference. Took a look at the plugs last night and they are a nice colour so i dont think it is over fueling. I will try get some photos up asap. It has sportline written on the edge and as i believe this was added extras when new, Think its the wheels, twin exhaust and from comparing how mine sits to others i believe the suspension is slightly different. It looks sweet in dark grey though!!
