Thank you Robert.*takes a bow* Thing is..to ME..the stuff is almost more intrigueing(sp?) in the raw then as a finished product. Dunno..but out of some reason it just appeals to me more when i get to see all the little mistakes, the dirt aso..just goes to show you how damaged i am i guess  |

Thanx again. Alloy welding..itīs sort of like riding a bike. Once you get a hang of it..you never really lose it again. Might turn a little rusty over time, but itīll come back. Then...iīve also got me one seriously good machine. A german(what else?) Metabo of approx 200amps thatīs about a year old. In comparsion to older welders iīve used..itīs not even on the same map. You can control AC frequenzy, amplitude as well as width..makes it a LOT simpler especially to weld cast alloys. That..and of course the correct choice of rods. Both the wolfram ones and the welding rod in itself. |

As I gradually repair the old repairs on the DB4 I have come to realise that the kit that the guys who built the car (1962) were using was so crap that I wonder that they managed to do anything. Imagine - one pair of blokes produce a perfect elektron body panel on a rollerball - back and forth for hours, until it's perfect, and then hand it over to a welder who's got the equivalent of Old Sparky and watch it disintegrate because of a power surge. Skills, I suppose, but I'm still awestruck. |

Yes, they are true perfectionists; it must have been an interesting conversation when a welder buckled a panel. Seconds out - round one! |

Honestly Robert alloy is a wonderful material to work with once you get the hang of it. All in all it comes down a LOT to what tools you use,and as such i have to admit to being spoiled. Further, seing the current rage..anodizing various pts indeed makes for an even half assed part to look good. In turn..it makes a working racing part...just fill the ticket i say. Currently weīre debating where to put the ad-on fueler injectors. Idea is to have more "mundane" sized one for low end running resolution of approx 400cc..and then a set of 1600cc injectors up top-aīla formula 1. Guess weīll arrive on a solution given a little time. 2000cc worth of fuel will suffice a bits way tho.. |

No no no no Robert...now youīre talking of bigblock V8s. THEY work that way. Just toss as much fuel as you can down the throat of one of those..itīll use what itīs got need for and toss the rest of it out the tailpipe with no real ills.. |

Yes - Aston Martin used the same Bosch system on the first (most beautiful) V8s and it turned out to be a disaster, because the sheer heat generated by the alloy block served to dry up all the seals and allow fuel into the sump. So they switched to Webers. But I drove a properly prepared Mk 1 AMV8 and it was amazing! |

Speaking of which.... Early tomorrow iīm getting in Cecilias car...for a roundtrip approx 250 miles north of here...snow n all.. Reason is that iīm going to take a loooooooooong good hard look at what i hope to be the new "balls to the wall" valver.. An astralsilber 91 vintage 2.5-16 slushbox car. Motor..is already sold..and that itīs an autobox car means that it HOPEFULY is less "tired" sheet metal and chassis wise. Car is reported by a friend that lives closer to it and took a look at it on my behalf to be in ok condition. So..come tomorrow i guess the rest remains to be seen. Doesnīt run worth a crap as usual due to KE probs..but in all honesty what do i care? As long as i can "patch" it enough to get back home if i find it a candidate..itīs all good i guess, and my friend that took a look at it for me also told me iīm free to use his shop for emergency repairs if need be. Ergo sum..iīm bringing a fresh KE unit,OVP relay,FP relay aso aso.. |

So...back home. The 2.5-16...followed me home Jesus...why do people never learn? Up here..itīs turning into winter in a hurry. Snow..sub zero asf.. Well...as we got to "Flen"(name of the place where the car was at)..we were greeted by a car in ever BETTER condition that i would ever have anticipated seing what the owner was asking. However..the car had a MAJOR flaw as stated...it wouldnīt start. After some basic diagnosis..we concluded the car was running way way rich...however.. For those of you into the loop on K-jets...car came to life after backing the CO adjustment screw out SEVEN TURNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SEVEN TURNS!!!!!!!!!!! Buuuuuuuut...with those SEVEN turns backed off...it idled and ran like nothing would stop it  So..seing that the car was taken off the road(probably due to the Kjet probs) it wasnīt really legal to drive it back on its own behalf...now was it... Now..i own several cossies as you know,and...tic tac toe..the car was one turbocharged 85 vintage from gothenburg Street legal and all...Turned the key..and started for home. We obviously did SOMETHING right with the KE..cause it topped out 180km/h in third with ease!(itīs a 4 speed slush box car) Any rust? Of course, but very very minor...seing its a 91 vintage 2.5-16 iīd say its in remarkable shape! Interior for the lack of better words looks like almost new...very VERY well taken care of. Option list is a bit "odd" to say the least. This being a "leichtbau" car-meaning it lacks sunroof, which is prefarable to me as that leaves more headroom when i install the roll cage. It lack rear headrests..lacks leather... On the other hand its got an automatic gearbox,AC and en electrical seat? Whatever in essence, cause this is a chassis that is EXACTLY what the Dr ordered as far as iīm concerned. It being a slushbox car also meaning that the sheet metal of the car will be less strained from previous use than a stick car. It WAS one serious 500 mile roundtrip tho...and iīm honestly beat.. More? Of course..as i said iīve continued work on the plenum for the new motor. Next up are the stacks to be welded to it...and then the diffusor aso.. |

Have spent the day with the newcomer,and...true enough, someone has indeed F-ed the KE up but from reasons you wouldnīt suspect at first. 1/Turned out that only one of the two fuel pumps was working. Tossed them both and replaced them with an earlier cossie singel one. Problem solved. 2/Took the valve cover off to check clearance and valve timing. Turned out that some "expert" had timed the intake cam two full sprockets to early. Out the tensioner came...re-timed the cams... Problem solved. 3/Got KE units for the cossie laying around so i didnīt see any need to fool around with whatīs damaged goods. So..installed a fresh one, adjusted the CO...and... PRESTO!!! A fully working, fully reliable 2.5-16 iīd say. Rock steady idle, picks up very smooth and hits the rev limiter in each gear like thereīs no tomorrow. In short...now i can drive it around for a little while to get a "feel" for the car b4 i start rippin into it. |

No,you got it wrong Dave. As noted earlier i deem the old POS in to bad a shape to even consider overhauling.Seing the cost of a fairly fresh cossie...what would be the point. So....yes..this is the new shell for the mega turbo gun. Going to build it up with roll cage-the works. |

Itīs just a general reflection Dave. A slushbox car isnīt driven the same way as is a stick car-for performance cars that is. Donīt get me wrong, but itīs kind of hard to perform a burnout with an auto one. In essence, the slush car hasnīt been stressed to the same level as has the stick one. |

Between the arfilter housing and the fuel distributor(the thing with all the tubes leading from it) My guess is a vaccum leak tho as it apparently only smells of fuel as you start her up? Not uncommon for the rubber seal between the KE unit and the throttle body to crack. Also check the various hoses at the injectors and the hoses leading to and from the idle motor. Spent some time working a little more on it today,and..itīs turning into a well working stocker in every meaning of the word. SLS works.ASD works aso aso Gonna spend some time driving it tho the next week or so...then... you know what they say.... Any idiot can restore a car. It takes a REAL man to carve one up  |

Sorry...no...not at the moment. Have spent the last week on customer setups as well as getting the new car(the silver one) in running order to assess it. For the hell of it i played around with the disfunctional SLS/ASD system as i felt i needed more knowledge of the system. ..and indeed..i got it to work per OEM. Which in turn...made me realize that chassis work is in order.. Currently spending some time trying to weigh the idea of Delrin bushings in the chassis vs OEM back n forth. That the rear subframe needs to be bolted more rigid into the fram is all clear, but what iīm thinking of is the various control arms and such. As the cup kit is going into the car..also if some of them needs to be adjustable to for instance be able to alter rear camber. Future will tell i guess. Anyways. Car is ready for MOT in every aspect of the word after a 2.5yr stand still. |

Got a couple of sponsors for the project. One of them is my local retailer of merc parts. So..what goes up...must come down.. IOW..might be that FAST is a good idea...but coming to a halt isnīt all that bad on occasion either..call me yellow.. ..and of course..on a merc of this stature...anything but merc is out of the friggin question. So. (Next to a stock 16V brake disc....altho you honestly lose perspetive a little as the valver disc is that much ahead of the C32 one) |

Well...in all honesty,a lot can be done even with the stock brakes up front. Hereīs the deal IMO when it comes to racing stuff in general. 1/First and major upgrade you can do to any brakes is some serious quality pads intended for rally use(when car is supposed to be for the street) Forget the "bling" entries..Ferodo,Mintex aso does it. Brake pads come in various compunds, and expect serious pads to be a quid or two. What iīm trying to say is that altho the money involved might be considered on the heavy side for something as mundane as pads...donīt be afraid to try out various compounds. They DO work differently. 2/Braided brake lines. They make for a large difference in pedal feel mainly. With them installed, brake performance isnīt really altered, but you as the driver are left more in control as you can tailor brake force MUCH better on the edge. 3/Brake fluid. As you install the "better" pads..temps will go up...and from my racing days i learned that we ALWAYS opened up the bleed nipple to let the fluid closest to the caliper out after a race. ALWAYS. Reason being that different fluids cater to different needs. Thing is...with the correct pad...when you "lean on it" the discs will even turn blue to the colour...until then..you need more pad..trust me on that. Something that comes with the territory of racing pads tho is that they need a little more heat b4 they start doing their job...but as you get that heat into them...HELLO!!! If you after these simple mods still ainīt level with what youīve got...THEN it might be time to change. Remember..big ass calipers IS NOT what makes for the difference. Disc diameter and pad compound is. That i need bigger stoppers on the "balls to the wall" 190 is something i at least regard quite obvious..cause..what goes up..must come down..and the idea is that this little silvery thing will go up a little faster when done than the average 190 iīd say..

Regarding the clutch, I have seen upgraded clutch plates for various applications, but also upgraded pressure plates themselves? d o they go hand in hand when looking for a clutch with more bite? i.e. if you go for a stronger clutch you need stronger plate too? I know I wont be putting the same power down as you (but still maybe 70% more than stock!) and I will still be giving it quite some abuse and would want better feel/bite and I have seen some parts available I think would be good. Thanks Dave |

I currently run a 2 disc Sachs racing in the car,and the new one will be a 3 disc as can be seen in the pics. Differ racing stuff and "ordinary" clutches that are normaly designated for one given car/engine model. With the racing stuff itīs the other way around..you mod the flywheel to make the racing stuff fit via a "racing standard". For instance..a sinter clutch like the ones iīm using takes a "piedestal" on the flywheel of 0.1" height..racing standard. For a more sensible car..you wont outgrow the stock pressure plate couple with a "normal" sintered driven disc until approx 400hp. To give you an idea. |

In essence-yes. FWIW,when hunting for driven plates be aware that the Getrag 275 shares splines with late GM boxes. They differ ever so slightly, but nothing a die grinder with a flapper disc and 30 seconds wont solve. Also be aware that IF you decide on swappin pressure plates...driveability often goes out the door if regular traffic is on the agenda. We have adopted the "motorsports" pressure plate for the E30M3s (Sachs 618) with a little flycuttin of the flywheel more than once. Iīd say for a true streeter, thatīs the limit as far as pressure plate. That coupled with a sinter disc and the CORRECT install height for the 618 should take you the other side of 500 if need be. Another note is that itīs msot def feasable to lighten the OEM flywheel quite a bit with no real ill effects for the spirited driver. What i tend to end up with more often than not when modding them is that we "cut out" the dual mass part of it so that all thatīs left is "stands" for where the pressure plate bolts up. Does wonders for engine response without becoming unbareable to drive. |
