jacking points on the sills and the floor, panel in between the rear window and the boot, best place to look is in the boot around the boot hinges, check inside the boot as well, under the plastic panels, front wings can be quite soft and prone to rusting, inner wings have been known to rust too, under the washer bottle ;) ...........make sure theres no gunge in the coolant,no frothe in the oil, whining diffs can be a problem too,
broken springs are a regular thing on these, both front and rear.wear on the bolster of the drivers seat ;)

The secret,as with buying any car is to buy a good one. Try to find one which has been properly maintained and looked after.
These are well bulit cars and very solid but are quite old now. If you can find one which has been well looked after though they can be cheap to run.

Thanks everybody for your advise. I've bought one now. It's in fairly good condition, very clean inside and out. I've just been removing the wrongs that the last person did, such as headlight eyelids and wind deflectors.

It's a 2 litre manual in dark blue by the way.
