Heater Blower Switch

Before I knew about all you experts, I had my heater blower motor replaced by a stealership. After two weeks the blower motor speed was the same on position 3 and 4. Took it back to be told by the "mechanic" that in position 4 the system had a sensor to control the speed. Naturally I haven't and won't be using their services again, and I didn't get 10% off either. What I need to know is " are the haynes book circuit diagrams accurate" as I do not get continuity between pins 4 (feed from fuse) and 6 feed to motor thus motor does not work at full speed.
Also the centre and right hand air vents are cracked across (by the dash panel)
can these be replaced without taking the whole dash out and are new parts still available.

Basically yes to all the questions.

The heater speed is controlled by resistors in a block mounted on the bulkhead. The full speed input should connect straight through the block. The fault will be on the wire between the heater control and the resistor or will be the heater speed control itself! I would suggest that, after your experience with the mechanic, the switch is still at fault!

Thanks Big Ben for your reply. Will order a new switch and let you know how it goes.

Ordered s/h switch cost £10 and fitted all working o.k. again. Took ten minutes to remove old one and fit new one.
