Yeah it did take a while about 15-20 minutes, but the pictures above are just ideas if someone wants to change something in their engine bay, be it the colour of the cam cover or headers they can have a quick look through here and get some ideas. |

great pics lewis, after much thought, (well about an hour last night) im seriously going to enquire about locating (wont be easy im sure), tuning (well modestly, no turboooo or the like) and fitting a c36 amg engine over the weekend. (not to mention tax and insurance im sure ye are all aware of the ridiculous road tax prices in ireland). i suppose i might be forced to go to across the water to ye to find a suitable doner car. personally im thrilled with the looks of my car and intend keeping it looooong term so i dont mind the idea of spending a pile of money on it. perhaps i dont know what im letting myself in for but... lol |

Well you need a very skilled mechanic thats knows these engines and the 190 to fit one, its pretty straight forward, half the electrics that come with the engine you wont need. Fitting it in a weekend is another matter. |

 i knew i was phrasing the 'over the weekend' bit badly. what i meant by that was making enquiries about the above over THIS weekend coming. not fitting it in a weekend.
yeah i cant see it being too difficult but i have a mechanic in mind who would have a good knowledge of them but hes apparantly a distaster time wise. perhaps dave or any others might know of someone worth contacting. |

im not having much luck finding a doner anyways.guess ill have to start enquiring over in england now. lads, genuinely now, is it worthwhile doing when you consider final power, handling, sound etc. also, if a mechanic started it full time and stuck with it would he finish it within a week or maybe two.(i would prefer to agree a price with one before starting so id want to know how long it will take him, ie, physically is it reeallyyy tight as in, out with the grinder and cut half the car away) sorry for hassling ye, but doing this will stretch me to the max and i need to be as informed as possible before undertaking such a project. thanks in advance lads (sorry) Conor |

With the amount of fabrication etc needed I can't see any mechanic taking on a project like that for someone else. I genuinely think doing something like that is something that needs to be done by YOU, not someone else, that way you learn all the ins/outs and roundabouts of what's being done. Servicing after the swap etc too is going to be a bugger - again, something that a lot of conventional places may shy away from, so you need to be able to do it yourself. |

Is it worthwhile? Yes very much so, it all depends on how much money is being spent and how much time you have got. The C36 is a great engine, but if you want to gain power without to much work go for a 16v motor or and m103 3.0 with a getrag bolted on. If there not enough then go for a M104 3.0-24v/3.2 or the C36... As for the fit its not too tight, it will go in, you wont need to get the grinder out, i'm not sure on the mounting points im pretty sure there the same. You need someone skilled enough to do the swop e.g. fit the loom, ECU, also half the wires from the C36 you wont even need... Its best really for you to do it yourself with a mate as it will cost s**t loads for someone else to do the work. |

well as much id love to be able to, never mind find the time to do it for myself, it would be impossible. i suppose the best thing that i could do now is just go around a few mechanics that i know (some who i know very well) and see if they'd do it for me, and if so how much. as for putting in a 16v, i couldnt justify the cost, id be better off to sell my own (any takers lol) go and get a mint cossie and spend a few bob tuning that up. i just like to have something different as well. my own car would be a VERY rare sight around home AND to have the power to match the looks is what i strive for at the moment. oh god, i just dont know, but ill keep ye posted anyways. thanks for the comments lads. |

 the whole c36 engine conversion is not going to plan. not only can not i get the gear, anyone i approached are well reluctant. however i have been advised to consider a 2.3, 2.5 16v conversion more seriously with the view of turbocharging her. but as i said before im not too keen on turbos fitted when not designed for them, reliability etc, etc. and im unsure would anyone be able to do a truely professional job. i also wouldn't know what turbo and other equipment to use. at the moment im bown, but im not out yet. maybe someone would VERY kindly give me a bit of a run down on whats involved, what to use etc, because after all ye are the experts. its such a pity we dont have a proper search function, then mere morsels like myself need not annoy those in the know. thanks Conor |

Big al's 2.3 16v write up Is that the write up your talking about? 2.3/2.5 16v, will be ideal as they are both M102 and use the same mounting points... Edit: Just found pictures of when the cossie lump went in: 16v into an 8v 190 "the wolf in sheeps clothing" |

try 'turbo questions here',on this forun , or 190rev via the links if you like, go to 'to be continued', in the performance section. should give some pointers. easiest ways are to buy a 2nd hand conv complete, guy called roman i think was selling his lot. |

hey jezza, if you want an easy quickie engine swap with some go, maybe the12v 6cylinder 3litre,i keep giving you ideas, you must be getting moist by now! or get a knackered 2.6 car and do the ultra simple swap to the 3.0litre, kentronix did this on a ultra low budget, instant near 190bhp. only needed the engine and ecu and hey presto,so c'mon if you want a 400mile burn-up to the hock, you need to do some wock(even I thought that was bad ! gross.gif ) lewis , if you have anymore 6 cylinder pics... could ya? |

O.K. the engines easy to find, do we know who would like to do the work. I would be the assistant lackie, inspiration, tea etc. I would like to use my car, as she is in such good shape mechanically, with almost zero rust, and the body wouldnt take much to restore. I'm sure the rear end is low only coz of the weight of all that emulsion paint. jeremy |
