Anyone who can tell me whether this job should be done by a mechanic? Dealer wants $300 US --not including the parts cost.

I did do a quick write up on how to change it, but you'll have to do some digging to find it unfortunately - I'm at work right now, but I'll see if I can locate it a bit later.

Great help here and much appreciated. I do not have ramps, but could pay for them with what I will save. I was looking at a Haynes manual but it is really technical and pictures for this are lacking. I tried to find that article "Conrad" did about how to change it, but cannot find it here. Maybe someone knows where it is.

I'm only really here for the Kitchens

I did mine in about an hour on jacks. Tbhat was before I knew what I was doing.

You have to get right under the car so you should be on ramps or axle stands at least.

Head under the car roughly under the gearlever. I would suggest rais the car high and then lift the gearbox slightly with a jack to make it easier.

Take off any shielding you find (mine had none so I dont know how).

Then you can see exactly what to do. You should find you can get to all the bolts using an allen key and a socket. Have a look (or take a pic) of the situation so you can be sure you fit the new one the correct way round front to back. You have 5 or so bolts to undo and redo.

My advice from my experience is to take it apart and then take the part to get your replacement. I have done 2 of them and neither have been the part number I expected.

I have some under car pics if you need them ? click email to trigger me to post them, next few days very busy.
