Hi everyone,

I'm Nick, new member from S.W. London.
I have been given an import from USA. Its 1992 2.3 petrol 4 cylinder left hand drive auto that has only done 20,000 miles from new!

It is not registered in this country yet, but it has been imported.

I am trying to get it through its mot but when I jump-started it the the other day the ABS warning light came on and wont go off! Any ideas?

cheers Nick

Sounds like the OVP relay blew when you were jumping it.

Good catch though, sounds like you landed butt in the butter!

OK Thanks guys. Is it just a question of replacing the fuse or the whole relay?

If the fuse is blown then jsut replace that, if the the ABS light still comes on though, or turns on and off when your going along you might have to replace the relay.

I just replaced the relay on min as the on there was 20 years old and was due a chnage.

Hi Stu,

Anyone got a picture of the OVP relay? Marv you said its behind the battery, but i had a quick look and there really doesnt seem enough room but it was dark and i was being lazy! Does the fact its a left hooker mean its in a different place?

There might be a London GTG so come along with the car if you want - check out the local GTG section - details coming together about dates etc.

Get some pics up too!

Thanks for everyones help.

I found the OVP relay and checked the fuse and it's fine.

Does anyone have any ideas what else I can check to see why the ABS light won't go out?
For those reading this for the first time; it only came on after jump starting the car. Another problem is that the dashboard lights do not work. I have checked all fuses.

Any help most welcome as I need to get it MOT'd asap :help:

Could still be a nackerd OVP though, the fuse on mine was'nt blown but the OVp had still had it.

Prior discussions indicate that the relay itself may have a reliability problem due to cracks that can develop in solder joints that will prevent it from delivering power to the buss.

It'll set you back £20 for a new one from MB so not too bad. Failing that it could be one of the two relays in the ABS pump itself (V easy to replace) or a faulty ABS sensor(One on each front wheel and One on the Diff)

Have a read of this (thanks for the Link Lewis)

Oh, another thing - the boot light doesnt work, bulb is fine.

So, 1) no boot light
2) no dash lights
3) abs light on all the time

are they linked?

OK, the ABS light on has been solved..........the rear diff sensor is kaput!

At least that's out the way. Thanks for everyone's help esp Marv :D

Only probs now is boot light out (bulb ok) and no dash lights (they cant all have blown!?)

Boot light could be faulty switch and Dash lights could be down to a fuse or simply a loose wire or the bulb behind the dials could have had it.
