Hello! First post on the forum. I live near Lancaster. I have 3 x 190Es at the moment. My next door neighbour bought my last car from me - a 2.0 auto, which I bought at 198k and sold at 211k. It still looks and drives like new and he's become a 190 convert! The cars I currently own are:- 1993 L reg 1.8 auto, 130K Avante Garde Red metallic 1989 G reg 2.6 auto 155K Pearl Grey Metallic 1992 J reg 2.6 Sportline auto 108k Brilliant Silver Metallic/grey leather The Grey 2.6 I use for work, covering approx 6-700 miles per week. I had it coverted to LPG about 10k miles ago. Terrific car in fantastic condition and a brilliant workhorse that returns the equivalent of around 55-60 mpg. I intend to run it until it falls to bits. ie forever! Gets serviced by a local specialist every 10 weeks. The 2.6 Sportline I purchased about 3 weeks ago, having searched for about two years for the right one. This IS the right one! I intend to use it at weekends for fun and attending Mercedes Club meets (I'm a member and write features regularly for the Gazette). This car has had well over £6k spent on it in the last year on the mechanicals. Have just spent 10 days underneath, checking it over, cleaning, de-rusting, undersealing & waxoyling. (I do that with all my cars, as I like to know that what's underneath is absolutely sound). The 1.8 is one of the last made, registered Aug 1993. In great condition, bought from a local lady owner in February and have spent the spring & summer bringing it to first class condition. Sadly, it never gets used. I only have room for one car in the garage and I have to move the other two to enable me to get it out, so if anyone wants to buy it, please let me know. It will be advertised in the December Gazette at £1200, which I think is a fair price, given its condition. I will post more details if anyone's interested. Have enjoyed reading many of the posts and look forward to contributing in any way I can. Best regards twopointsix |

Thank you for the welcome messages. Unfortunately, I wouldn't even begin to know how to post a picture on the site. It took me all my time to figure out how to post a message in the first place! I do have some digital photos of the grey 2.6 - somewhere! You could try tracking down a copy of the Owners Club magazine for November 2006, as it's featured in there somewhere. Oh, and there's another photo of it in the November 2007 edition too. I did have a photograph of the 1.8, but I sent it off to the Gazette with the 'for sale' advert. You'll be able to see that around December 20th when the next issue comes out. (As an aside, the M-B Club is a fantastic organisation and great value - membership is highly recommended). I have no photos of the Sportline. It's winter and very overcast, so the light is awful. Horrible for taking photographs. You'll just have to use your imagination and memory, I'm afraid. Picture an absolutely bog standard 1992 190E 2.6 Sportline in brilliant silver, with a slightly darker set of silver grey Bruno Sacco panels covering the lower flanks. (I think the new set of Mercedes 8-hole alloys and Dunlop 205/55/15 tyres really suit it). Then picture the supple onion grey leather seats, with correspondingly unmarked grey carpets and interior trim. (Oh, the factory mats? Yes, they're new, too). If your imagination is really good, you'll be able to feel your bottom being warmed by the heated front seats. (Please try not to touch the switches for the electrically operated driver's seat, all round electric windows or the sunroof, as they're quite sensitive and working just like they should). Continue to cast your eyes over the full zebrano centre console (and here's where you'll really have to be imaginitive), linger for a moment on the Becker Mexico Pro Radio/CD/Minidisc/cassette player (because that won't be installed until next week). Then picture a nice clean engine bay and whilst you're peering into it, mind your head on the new factory full-length bonnet pad. You might, if you're very observant, spot the new fuel injectors, fitted in May when the cyclinder head was removed for skimming and reworking. If you had X-Ray eyes, you instantly notice all the new parts in the recently rebuilt gearbox. If you were really clever, you'd spot the four page invoice from the Mercedes specialist who carried out all the work and if you were REALLY smart you'd instantly recognise all the correct Mercedes part numbers. If you were terribly, terribly keen, you might crawl underneath and spot the new brake lines, fuel lines and prop shaft couplings, but you'd probably be distracted by the all new factory Sportline shock absorbers and springs, (not to mention all the new bushes, tie rods, ball joints and track rod ends). Whilst you were down there, you'd probably be quite taken aback by how clean the underside of the car is too! Apart from driving really well, it's nothing special really! Sincere apologies for appearing a bit smug, but I am rather pleased to be the new owner of such a nice car, particularly as the first two owners were sufficiently considerate to always have the car serviced by the supplying main dealer...and the third owner had it looked after by a highly reputable Mercedes specialist. Always nice to know where a fifteen year old car's been, don't you think? Forget the photos chaps; like a lot of women, they're a lot better in the flesh! Looking forward to the next 100,000 miles..... Keep smiling! twopointsix |
