I've told the guy to join here, but I don't think he is going to....

There's a thread on PH here

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=474935

I love these cars, but I think he'd be mad to spend that cash on a car that is high mileage, doesn't have the correct spoiler and has blacked out windows. I'm sure you guys know more than me about these cars and I'm hoping that someone can post on PH and give the guy some advice. Not least of which is a pointer as to who knows enough about them to carry out an inspection for them.

Oh...and my 2.3-16 is running as sweet as it ever did...and has been joined by a big brother.....C43 AMG in Obsidian Black with 66,000 on the clock, FSH and the best news - no...and I mean no....rust!

Hey Rubystone,

What happened to the other C43? The (silver?) one?

I've got my eye on one that should be coming up for sale in the new year, that's Obsidian black also - beautiful colour B)

Hi Will.

Now that it's all been resolved, I can tell all! I bought a very nice silver 1999 car from a dealer in Manchester. Yes it had a bit of rust on it, but I was pretty confident I could have it sorted under Mobilo....

...in any event, I needn't have worried about that since after just 6 days of owning it, it was stolen from outside my house. I was a victim of the so-called "Millenium Crime". For those that don't know, this involves the thief kicking down the back door of the house, finding the car keys, filling the car up with the contents of the house and driving off.

In my case, in addition to all of that, they managed to then "park" the car in a ditch 4 miles from my home. I say "park"....they failed to negotiate a fast roundabout and took off over a 6 inch high granite kerb with consequent major damage to the underside of the car.

Needless to say, it was written off and I ended up with a cheque for not as much money as I should have from my insurer. I am currently in the process of using the services of the Financial Ombudsman on that account.

So I ended up spending more money on another car, albeit one that has only covered a genuine 66,000 miles and is rust-free with new tyres and a service 6,000 miles ago.

On the MBCLUB forum recently one guy claimed that he'd received a very quick setlement on his written off C43 and was also trying to sell the car for £3k. Well, I was offered my car at £1800 salvage and I think that's a typical figure on one of these...even at that level, I felt there was no way I could put the car back on the road, even using my own contacts in the trade, for less than £3k on top of that...and that then assumed that the engine and transmission were not in any way damaged....

Wow - that's quite an eventful story. Hope it gets sorted out ok.

How much did they offer you for the car?

Is the 66K one the car that was on Pistonheads a month or two back (in London?)

Cheers,

Will

Hi Will, no I don't think it's that one. I think the PH car is "Mercland's" car and although it says "sold" on PH, I think it is still for sale.

I bought my car via ebay - check back and you'll see it. Note that I didn't pay the asking price for it though, let's just say that it was a chunk below his asking price...just above £6k.....

Ah, the Mercland car - belongs to Jay on the other forum. He bought it from a member on there, looks like a nice one anyway though B)

I couldn't see your car on eBay - any pics or send us a PM if you want? Be interested to see it. Sounds like a good price too <_<

BTW, I mentioned over on PH - I've got some pics for you if you'd like? Of your 2.3 before you bought it. Let us know and I can send them over?

Cheers,

Will
