I would say that this is a C Class Grill/Bonnet On a Mercedes 190, but im not sure???

The car is definatly a mercedes 190!

For more info on his car. see http://190e.cadden.net.au/

I love his grille. That's how I'm going to do mine.

I think those are the headlights made by DEPO. It's got BMW E36 M3 style door mirrors too

Hey just a quick question sorry to bump. Is there any preparation steps you need to apply, before you paint the chrome outer rim of the grille?

If it's still in the standard Chrome finish, you may have to do quite a bit of prep I think.
If you can get the frame Media-blasted (aka Shot or Soda-blasted) on the cheap, then that might be the best idea.

Otherwise, it's time to break out an electric sander and take the shine right off all that chrome.
Then wet-sand it with 400 Wet-and-Dry Paper before you apply an Acid-Etch Primer.
Then apply your High-Build Primer, wet-sand that back with 600 W&D, then Paint.

That's my theory anyway; luckily the red frame on my car had all the prep done when I bought it :)

Not long time ago i brought a "shaved" grille. This is how was on the Mercedes from whom i brought it.

Posted Image

Fitted to mine W201 and stuck at the problem that the grill won't fit in the place.

Posted Image

Notice the huge [~7mm] gap.
Posted Image

Here you could observe that my front hood it's a little taller compared to grille
Posted Image
Posted Image

Double checked for deformation and past accidents, but without results. The grille it's in good condition without any damage or visible repairments.

Jumping into conclusion make me think that the grilles which were made until the face-lift version of W201 are different and have a different front hood construction. They are more curved in the front and not so doomed [compared to the face-lifted version front hood].

Could someone confirm that?

Hmmm... that's quite strange... how does it come that pre-face lift have a single water nozzle for window, but the face lifted have double water nozzles. I think they may have modified a little bit the shape of front hood... just some thoughts.

That smoothed grille feels like a little bit wider and not so tall compared to OEM.
However, i will make a photo inspection and will compare them side by side to find out where is the "evil" :)

Thanks, but i get the point :) . The car didn't move for about half of year and the shell have been damaged by nature and human factor. Soon a full body restoration will take place. I will create a build thread where i will post more detailed information about the history of the car and restoration progress :D

I didn't get rid of it, i just didn't buy it.

The twin washer nozzles were introduced at the same time as the panoramic wiper, many years before the face lift.

The cheap Chinese made grill surrounds are poorly made and never fit correctly. Maybe that's what is fitted to your car.

I can now see the pictures, that grill is clearly not an original MB part.
