Exhaust Upgrade

hi all,ive decided to upgrade the exhaust on the car which is a 2.o auto. the same i guess as most people im not after a loud drone like the boy racer cars. just something with a bit of extra noise, but more importantly a sporty sound. is this possible on an auto? also i would LOVE that rally style popping sound when you lift off although i doubt the car would be capable of this.

so what should i be looking for? a straight through stainless etc, etc?

thanks

What year is your car?
The popping on lift off is called after or over run, should be easy enough to recreate - my 2.0 does it with just a stainless Magnaflow backbox, no other exhaust modifications!
Looks nice too, just two squares poking out the back, I personally don't feel that circular exhausts suit our boxy cars.
Be warned though, that backbox alone cost £180! Plus it cost me an extra £50 to have it fitted (it's universal, not made for our cars specifically).

really conrad, thats good news. my 190 is 1993 so its one of the latest. i
TOTALLY agree with you on the twin exit pipe, its much nicer than a circular one. although on my car the rear bumber covers the exhaust and its really low so that could cause problems.

Yeah mine's a pre-facelift so the rear bumper is a lot higher. They still cut it though to make it fit.
If yours is a 93 then yes, it has a cat.

Nope, you can get a sports cat. If you take it out your car will fail MOT (or whatever your equivalent is) on emissions. A sports cat will allow free-er breathing.
Whatever you do don't cut that bumper. You can get them to hang it lower or do what Nick did and get a stainless steel one in the same shape as our standard, so it stops before the end and remains hidden, yet still gives you advantages.

i suppose the sport cat will set me back a few extra quid but i dont min tbh. id be more concerned about the end product ie. the noise. i just had a look there and maybe, just maybe we might be able to squeeze the tailpipes under the bumper. as the car is lowered the front is really low due to the design of the front bumper. but the back bumper is actually a lot higher.
so im off to price a backbox and a sport cat so. ;)

you reckon magnaflow would be my best set yeah?
as ye can kind of see below there isnt a wholepile of space there for an exhaust.
