Heater Blower Probs; Switch or resistor?

My heater blower only works on settings II and above, nothing on I or "min", (actually, not sure if it's meant to blow on "min"). Anyway, can anyone tell me if the fault is more likely to lie in the dashboard sliding switch or in the blower resistor behind the battery?

Hi. I had a similar problem with mine except it had stopped completely.

Firstly the heater blower system has three main components. The blower; the slider switch; and the resistor pack (plus of course the fuses which it isn't in your case). The slider switch does not make any electrical connection when on the far left (min) setting. As you push the slider switch to the right, the gubbins behind the slider makes various different contacts which send 12vdc down to a combination of resistors in the resistor pack, which in turn sends a suitable supply to the blower motor depending on the slider setting. As you push it further across to the right it makes different contacts through to different resistors and alters the supply to the blower - increasing or decreasing its speed accordingly.

In my case it was the resistor pack where for some reason one of the springs had moved and was shorting out on its casing, but in your case it could be a faulty contact in the slider. The only way you can check is to take it out and test it with a circuit tester.
