The current exhaust on my 190e 2.0 LE 1993 is very loud. It almost sounds like its blowing but neither I or the garage can find any leaks. The rear box was fitted about 18 months ago by the previous owner and I suspect its a low cost after-market box. It sounds very 'boomy' whilst driving so I am seriously considering changing it. I have looked through tons of posts on here but still not sure which way to go. I would prefer a new MB one but they are very expensive and don't seem to be particularly high quality (compared with the original which lasted 13 years & 110,000 miles). I have spoken to an outlet near me who can provide a full s/s Remus system for £218.00. This seems a good option but I don't want a sports exhaust which could be even noisier. Does anyone have any experience of these? I'm also unsure of the cat situation. Would the current original cat be fitted to the Remus system? Any suggestions will be welcome. Thanking you in advance. Gary. |

Vishal has a Remus system on his 2.0E (or at least a Remus backbox) from what I remember it sounded very nice, not too loud at all, nor boomy, just a nice low rumble.. Is it an entire system from the downpipes back? If so thats a very decent price. At Remus should be good quality kit. If you want it a little quieter they might be able to put in an extra silencer, for example Powerflow will put in more or less silencers depending on what you want, its just welding and/or C-clamps etc.. Speak to the outlet again, see what they say

I would imagine the Remus quote was for a 'Cat-back' system, ie centre box, centre pipes, rear box and tail pipes. But as Dave says, only one way to make sure

I have a remus back box on my 1993 190e 1.8, in some ways the exhaust is too quiet for a 'performance' box and preferably I would have it a bit louder given the option. Although the tone is perfect, a very deep bassy rumble which imo doesnt sound chavvy at all. Anyone know if Remus(or any other companies) do a replacement/direct fit centre box for the 8V 190E's just to make it a tad louder? thanks Tim |

Thank you all for your kind assistance & advice on this. I have been considering the options. The Remus system looked to be a good option and I was told on the phone the £220.00 was for the whole system. However I wasn't sure so called again and was told that this was only for a back box. I took a look at this and whilst it was a lovely piece of kit it would have been much more obvious than the original system as it sits lower due the the straight end tips. The Powerflow was a great price but after seeing the remus I really wanted to keep it as factory as I could. Hence I purchased a Mercedes one for just over £90. As you would expect it fits really well and the car sounds so much quieter and smooth. Must say I am well pleased with the result. Many thanks again for all the help. This forum is a god send for any 190 owner. Gary |
