hi ,to get them off.................take the little plastic bit from out of the top of the handle, and remove the 10mm bolt, remove the window winder(if its manual windows)......this can be done by getting something thin and strong, like a bent welding rod, pull the clip off of the back of the handle, then the handle just pulls off ;) .......then remove the plastic guard from around the lock area...........then lift the whole doorcard upwards to release the clips along the bottom :)

Loosen the philips screw and remove the small black plastic piece at the lock...
Pull out the plastic thing in the top of the handle, use a small flathead screwdriver and be gentle :)
Under that there is a 10 mm. bolt that you take out.
Remove the opening handle by pulling it a bit forwards and take out the rod that pulls the lock inside...
If you have manual windows, slide the plastic cover off, away from the knob you hold to turn the handle.

Then it should just slide upwards and off :)

Thanks for that Shrekky.. I'm going to give it a go in a couple of minutes... The rear door cards are a real shame, totally blown. Going to asses the situation and see if i can do a B&Q job as the boys suggested. Take Care

I just finished having a look... took the back left one off without any problems. Door cards are shot to hell and back, I'll def need some new ones. They're cream coloured in fabric! The rain sheets were ok, everything on the inside was full of red soil from Kenya..haha! The stuff gets everywhere. I also had a crack on trying to get the centre console off to look for a loose connection thats stopping the temperature controls from illumating. Didnt get too far as I didnt have anything to unscrew what lies behind (and around) the temp control dials once the knob is off. Its quite a fascinating problem as some of centre console lights work(recirculate air switch), but others dont. The electric window switches back and front are out too. I've put in a brand new bulb to check and see if all the bulbs were gone, but no luck.

I should say actually; the window switches work - but they do not illuminate. The back left window lifter motor is out though. Dont know if thats causing the problem. I tried to make sure it wasnt the switch by swapping it with the one from the back right, still no activity. But, I do recall.. ages ago whilst the car was in kenya that the motor stopped working on the back left, and due to the window motor being stupidly expensive from the Merc authorised service centre in Kenya that my dad asked them to isolate the motor. I checked for any wires that had been cut or anything and it all looked intact. Unless the wire had been chopped from the motor right at the back, I didnt remove the rain sheet as they looked like they'd never make it back on...

You can get those big nuts off with pliers.
Take the bulbs out so you dont break them, then open your pliers as far as they go, you can use them end-on. The nuts shouldnt be too tight.

Thanks Kenny.. What do you think I should keep an eye out for in terms of loose connections, etc? Do you think the motor being out has anything to do with it?

when you get the console out, pull it out slowly, you will clearly see the wires that go to the surround bulbs. There are 2 I think.

I cant remember, was it the heater knob surrounds or the knobs themselves that dont light up ?

It was the both knobs and surrounds + window switches too! I really suspect a cut wire somewhere.. Im surprised I didnt find one around the window winder motor. You must get a lot of people at the lights trying to race you - especially in our area! haha!

I remember. Yes I was thinking it sounds like either a break in the wire somewhere, or perhaps a bad connection at the back of the cluster.

Re twats wanting to race, I do now, coz I left the santa pod number on my rear screen :P Had some oops in a corsa gawping then calling on all his 2 years of driving experience only to get left in a cloud of humiliation getting beaten by an automatic. I still have all my camping gear in the boot too :) God knows what he thought I had under the bonnet.

Hehe.. Most times you can tell when the guy next door wants to race - at that point I usually let him go or make sure that its in 1st. Its been good fun in the rain the last few days. I tried doing a little rear swinging that I do around the roundabout (normally in the 190E) before the morrisons in hatch end in the E200K and i nearly lost it totally.. the ESP kicked in and recorrected things FAST! That reminds me.. i've got to send you a picture of your lap time as well as your video.. Waiting on the nutjob who took my camera transfer cable to return it.. I hope I get time to sort out the lighting issue tmrw.. its been pending way too long and its getting on me nerves!

If you can still get them, they're currently priced at £102 + vat, before the mandatory 10% discount. :)
If you look at my thread," Parts no longer availaible" Cossie Connossieur's info will fill you in.

I thought beer came in units of 3 pints ? Going for a quick pint is always actually 3 pints. You cannot end unless your on a multiple of 6. The rules may be different for bottles I guess ?

We'll have to establish the size of the bottles - maybe they're the really large 750ml ones??... in which case .. i think kenny's rule still applies.. haha
