So failed the retest on the emissions.
Still as bad as before, around 5% CO (carbon monoxide)

Not sure what to do now.
I've got the garage looking into it, but that's at £45 per hour. So I've asked them to do an hour, and see if they can work out what's causing it.
But I'm a bit lost now.

I think it can only be either worn piston rings, or exhaust from one of the cylinders, or a dodgy fuel mixture.

Anyone else experienced anything like this?

Not yet, but I'm sure I'll have the same result on Saturday.

Try altering the mixture, it's the cheepest option.

Oh No... im surprised that the car failed!! I sincerely hope that they find the source of the problem in the one hour you've given the garage... Best wishes.. I hope it sorts out soon. (Sorry I Can't suggest what you could change in this case)

I had this problem years ago and the MOT bloke said I should go round the block and come back in five minutes after thrashing its bo**ocks off and nearly red lining it. I did this because I didnt really care much about the car and it passed with ease.

Tried the italian tune up before I went to the MOT station, and I'd changed all the filters, engine oil, inj cleaner etc... but it still failed.

The garage rang back a couple of hours after I'd asked them to investigate the poor emissions, and they told me that they'd sorted it!

They said they've passed it, but that the emissions are a quite high at 2.70% (out of a max SO of 3.20%) , most cars run around 1.00% SO, and that they achieved this by cleaning out the air filter box, and the air breather hoses for the inj system.

They told me that it does need some attention and that the guy who fixed it will be able to speak to me tomorrow about it, as he's off today.
I'm hoping it's stuff I can do mself, but if not i might give em the work, as they've been very fair. £25 for finding out what was up, and cleaning out the gunk, and £25 for the partial retest.

So, as a garage they've been quite fair with me.
If anyone's interested in using a garage in the south-ish Manchester area, they are called
PF jones,
Stretford road,
Old trafford.

I reckon it might be worth fitting a new throttle body and fuel distributor as they wear over time.

Mines pretty high on emisions, but has'nt failed on the M.o.T for it yet it runs rich and the mixture screw is nackered so i can't adjust it. I got a new fuel dizzy and throttle body, air intake off a breaker just i've been to lazy to fit it.
