It HAS to be possible to modify one of those to fit an 8v right?! I had my head in my engine today and its seriously looks like the only way to pass that damn steering box..

yea why not
just cut the flange plate of it and weld round connections on there or whatever your exhaust port looks like and make it fit.
Maybe you need to cut a pipe and replace it a bit but nothing big.
And make a new flange plate by hand or with a lasercutter or use one from an other hedder that fit's your head.
That's a hole lot less work then making a new one out of nothing and the disign is probably a lot better as your own disign.

Just make sure you weld the pipe's stress free and the flange plate oterwise it cracks verry fast

I think it might be a standard 16v one. I don't have vernier at home, but I'm sure the pipes on my Evo 1 are a bigger diameter.

btw all evo's have the same header as a normal 2.5 if i'm correct
should be sweet to get a real class 1 header for my project
maybe i make my own hedder, same as the stock 2.5 but then bigger pipe's if i find the time

Thats what I was thinking, I mean its just the ends/flange that is really different...

Much easier than making LHD fit RHD.

OK, who has a TIG welder then?? :P

I'd love to do it myself but have never welded.

just got a mail from the seller:

the oval port is about 51x30 mm the 4 tubes are 45 mm outside diameter, the two round port are 52 mm when it is a standard hedder then maybe one which did not pass the quality control i found it in a garden of a friend and the ants lived inside, i asked him what it is and he told me it is from Zeuna Augsburg from the mercedes dtm time, they had to work all day long to make many different styles of hedders and often mercedes cancelled their orders because they found better solutions during testing... and this hedder should be one of the cancelled ones... regards andreas

Hi everyone!
Howz everyone doing?

its been a while since I added anything over here...lol

I dont think thats a DTM exhaust mate! Zeuna did make different styles of manifolds but i dont think thats a DTM one..

this is a pic of a 2.5-16 / evo i manifold that i have here sitting in the garage and the measurements are bigger...outside diameter of the manifold pipes are 50mm and this manifold does look a little bit tidier with less runs of pipe.

the principle problem is that dtm manifolds are LHD where as this one is a RHD

were any genuine MB projects DTM wise done in RHD?

Correct - there were never any RHD Evo's made.

Mazza - good to have you back on board! Do they charge you a lot more to insure your LHD AMG then?

Hey!

Cheers mate!! Its good to be back, for a little while anyways...he he!

Because the 3.2AMG was never supplied or intended for the UK market, most insurers wont even cover the car because its not on their data base, and the ones that are able to cover tend to go crazy with their quotes.

cheers

according to racing, you can't really improve on the stock 16v/evo headers that much, except by changin the materials they were made of (i.e. re-making a set with the same geometry, but with ceramic coating, for example).

also, 16v headers are different bolt pattern than 8v headers. found this out when someone replied to my thread about supersprint 8v headers. they won't work on 8v.

For LHD though right Sev?

Im really liking the idea of a 2516 one with the ends cut off and an 8v flange/connections on the cylinder head end. I know someone handy with a TIG too - watch this space I suppose?! :)
