Ok here goes, recently i have been talking to a few members and we had the idea of a get together at Castle Combe, and then perhaps a track day? They also thought i would be a good idea for me to organise it :help: . I was thinking that this wouldnt just be a good idea for the people who live near, maybe we will get some people who will be willing to travel for a track day (on the castle combe track) and a 190 get together.

I havent arranged anything yet, i was really just seeing how much interest we could get for this, and then i guess we can arrange times and dates etc. Once we can see how many people will possibly be interested i will go down to the ticket office and ask them if they wouldnt mind having a number of Mercedes 190 Owners getting together at the track. They do have lots of parking but i will find out if we can park overlooking the track. And then i will find out if we can get on the track and get a discount on the price aswell.

So, what do we think about a get toghether and/or a track day at Castle Combe Circuit?

If the track itself is too expensive ,(Wow,- F. me sideways ! i've just seen the price :o ) then we could always just meet there.....?

TBH you are better off organising an Andy Walsh (Carlimits) activity day at North Weald airfield.

Further information here:

http://www.carlimits.com/script/viewEvents.php?type=airfieldactivity

Basically if you can find a driver training day with no people booked on it, then you can book that date and turn it into an activity day. Works out at about £30-40 a head.

Cheers Bri

Prices FROM £170????

Though it is from 9-5. Wonder what the 'from' price includes?

Or as jeremy said we could just have a meet there and not actually go on the track?

No value imho.

Do a carlimits day, there is plenty of time to chat to others and you also get to mess about on two time trial circuits and a high speed corner. Andy Walsh is a superb tutor.

I fancy a go at this:

Example day from another forum:

Quote:

ON THE DAY

Your instructor will meet you at 9.00am at the airfield. You will need to bring your driving licence with you on the day. There is no need for the use of helmets and there are food facilities located within the airfield. The course will finish at approximately 4.00pm. Spectators are allowed onto the airfield but there are no facilities for them to sit and watch.
NOTE--- Lets plan to get there for 8.30, so we can over inflate our tyres and get ready to rumble . Food will be @ the Harvester.

ITINERARY
09.00am
Your meeting point will be at the Airfield where you will be shown to your instructor. You will need to bring your licence with you on the day. You will then be given a safety briefing by your instructor.

09.30am
Your course will begin. Depending on the day chosen (you will be taken out into the Airfield and be introduced to new techniques using our 'High Speed Bend', taking into account your level of ability and confidence. You will learn techniques like spin avoidance and control techniques.

12.00pm
Lunch Break (there are food facilities located within the airfield) Harvester for us

1.00pm
Continuation of course where you will put things into practise on "The Circuit".

4.00pm
Course Finishes

More info @ CarLimits

We should have no problem getting 20 cars. We have a specially branded PlanetMX5 activity day at a low cost of £50 per car based on 20 cars. One car one driver if poss plz.

Therefore you will need to pay £50 no later than the 1st July 2008

I cant quite work the pricing out, do you also have to pay for the track pass, £25 ?

And £4, I didnt know your an OAP mate :P
The castle coombe circuit does look great I would be very interested to know if there is a cheap way to get a bit of time around it. Remember, if we genuinly get enough interest for either of these places its not hard to get a discount. Think how much less hassle it is to book all the places for the same group, rather than lots of individuals. They should be flexible. Plus knowing its the first (possibly of many) track gtg may help swing things.

Also one of the two fastest tracks in the country,

Average lap speeds of 90-95 mph are common.

I'd be interested, coming from London to meet the bumpkins on our site

I sit here in front of the smokey peat fire, a thin shawl around my shoulders, spooning turnip soup from a wooden bowl into me and thinking about the terrible crop yield this year...

But even this f*****g yokel knows that you can't run an AC Cobra on 50% paraffin...

Oh yes you can.....50% 4 star + 50% Avgas. + ignition fiddling= 30 bhp.

All the semi-comp Mathwall engined Cobras ran on it.

In fact , all the Mathwall engined everythings ran on it,.......so there, merrrrrh (just carry on suckin yer straw) ;)

Avgas (130 octane, back in the day) Kerosene for jets. Confuse the two and yr f****d. I must drip some diesel onto the fire to keep me warm...

I read that before fuel was regulated, Esso used to deliver 44-gallon drums to the Vanwall company. "Sign here, etc..." In the Autumn/ Winter, this was fine, but when it got hot, they'd find that, next morning, the lids would have popped. Not just the bungs, but the whole thing...

A very high calorific value indeed. I rang a bloke at an airfield up the road the other week: "Could I buy 25 gallons of AvGas?"

"No..."

Bugger...

Then just exactly what was it that they were giving me , when I regularly took 5 empty jerry cans up to Elstree Aerodrome & they filled them up with what was 135 octane( ) on the actual pumps? Of couse it was kero.
