Exhaust Rubber Hangers; Where to buy?

Rear Box exhaust rubbers gave way yesterday, I have zip-tied the Box in place for now.
I'm not a big fan of Tyre & Exhaust places, especially in London - the tools they use appear to be bent coathangers, so I'd like to source and fit them myself.

Is this something your average local motor factors sell?
I have the (snapped) old one for comparison.

Neil, I've just googled "exhaust rubber hangers" & there are loads of suppliers, check it out.

I had some 'go' on me aswell, luckly it was in town before I got to the bypass.

Anyways I picked some rubbers up from Quickfit (just asked for them, I didnt leave my car) but these look worth it Link

I'm only really here for the Kitchens

my local halfords do both the donut type and the more solid type like in that link, I got the donuts which were about 80p I think.

They are about a fiver apiece from the dealers, but if you don't have a standard exhaust, they may not fit. Halfords' are OK, as are Autoquip or any decent factor - they are all made to a reasonable quality, but by they time they give way they are often stretched beyond all recognition!

Best bet is to get some for a Mercedes Sprinter.

I used a set on my old golf 16v that had an appetite for them.

Once these were fitted, problem solved.

Think I have to get some, just noticed that mine are completly missing.
Will visit Hellfrauds later, shame the local old fashioned motor factors closed as they were 50p each there.

I will get 2 as I always loose the spares but I do carry cable ties in both cars for such emergancys

Neil, mine went not so long ago. Got new ones from the dealer, good quality and cheap. Simple to fit too. Just tie the box up slightly higer than normal and fit rubbers, then cut cable ties, job done. One thing to make sure of, is that the box is sitting square. If slightly off square they'll be to much stress on one rubber and too little on the other and you'll lose both rubbers far sooner.

Use the dealers here. I got mine from halfords prob was they fit all good but then when everything warms up the box starts vibrating against the body and its very annoying. They cost £0.80p the original merc ones that i bought today cost... £0.82p LOL. Also you can see the significant difference in the girth (love that word!) of the rubbers.

Also to fit the rubbers I jacked up the exhaust with a trolley jack got the box close to the car body and then put the tops onto the body hangers then pull them down onto the exhaust catches job done!

I like this idea thanks. Today I battled so much I gave up with just one in place. Rainy blast tends to slow the ideas process

Mine went whilst I was driving out in the sticks (dogging ;) ) and the backbox was smacking the underside of the car. I got two plastic bags and twisted them so they were rope-like and made rings out of them, got a few miles and stopped to check they hadn't melted, they had dropped off. Found a Spar shop and bought a massive bag of elastic bands, hooked about 350 elastic bands on the bracket pieces and that got me home.

About a week later (after I'd fitted the proper rubber mounting rings) the backbox came off from the weld as I was driving, hit the road, lifted the car up nearly and bent the bumper back nearly ripping it off the car. So yeh, always make sure you have a clean, strong backbox ring before making a long journey.

Having a strong backbox ring is most important to stop you dropping it's contents without warning whilst on the move, that's for sure !!

An old well used ring will certainly cause problems :o

point taken. Mine fell out sideways on a roundabout at slow speed so I was luckier. It's an ongoing headache though because the second ring still won't go on. I've tried 4 dealers for slightly bigger ring(s) with no result. I'm thinking of using a ziplock on the second hanger. If loose, perhaps it won't snap.

Just awt to mention: I put new ones on 3 months ago when I noticed I was running on one only. The new ones were generic and snapped clean in less than 2 months. Therefore it seems only the original part will do for this :evo2:
