Replacement advice on 2.5 16V

I have a 2.5 16V. Exhaust is stock with the exception of the tail pipe which gives it the DTM look. I have read most of the threads and like to know if the following is the recommended setup for street use :

2.5" all through, take out the mid box, get a stainless rear box tailor-made, and choose what ever type of end tip that I like ( in my case I will keep the DTM tail pipe ).

as far as im aware these cars runn better without the boxes removed.
