The law says that 70% of the light must pass through the front side windows and 75% through the windscreen. You can totally obscure the rest should the mood take you. How much light does the standard MB tint stop? 'Cos thats got to be taken into account when applying c*nt tape to the windows. This enquiry is not for me. Its for a mate who's got a black car with a beige interior and he thinks the inside stands out too much. Al |

Change the interior? ![]() On my old car I had mega dark smoke windows, couldnt see in at night and still pretty dark in the day, night time driving was a pain at Tjunctions, not to mention wondering was it a cop car or just a normal car behind you, and the LAPD didnt like them at checkpoints much either. ![]() Ive since grown out of them and on the new silver car Im happy to show off the nice leather insides ![]() But I will say it did give the car this really cosy snug feel, something Im going to try recreate with a black roofliner (instead of the light grey), should give the impression of a lower roof and enhance that cockpit feeling.. Flocked dash will help here too

Yes, a black-interiored car simply doesn't need tints. Tbh I think the black cars suit cream interiors though... |

got mine 50fronts, 35 passenger, 25 rear really helps to keep the car cool in teh summer, and sunlight doesnt burn your arms while driving, + it smartens the car up and gives it a more "prestiege" look imo ![]() |

presumably the law means 70% must pass through from one side of the car to the other (as the laws intented to allow headlights to pass through when your waiting to pull out somewhere) so to get 70% to pass through the most you could tint would be about 16% on the fronts as; 84% through first window (0.84*100), then 84% of that through second window (0.84*84) = roughly 70% I dont think 16% is very much, i enquired about getting my fronts done, no where had any film lower than 30% and i think the windows come factory with about 5%, so i think you'd be hard pressed to find 10% film. Although, at the road side i dont know how the police could measure it. And you can always wind the window down. |

Its 70% for each window, not right through the car. (I've researched it )There's no law on the back and rear windows (think vans) Al |

i got stopped once and they did a road side test, with a laser gadget thingy. they said they was to dark and told me to remove them on the spot or i couldnt drive the car. was a pain seeing as i was only test driving it. the police told me they plan to ban window tints on the front windows all together soon.im cant seem to remember what the legal limit was. but the stadard tint has to be taken into account, forever getting stopped so they can test them. makes it to much hassle imo.and tinting the backs wthout the fronts just looks odd. so there's no law against blacking out all other windows? the way i see it, irrespective of the laws, i bet they can make you remove any tint they want to. |

Does anyone know when the law came in and if it only counts from the year it was introduced or is it back dated? say you got tinted windows back in 1993 when the law on tints didn't exist would you still have to remove them? seeing as it was legal when they were put on? |

Its back dated I'm afraid. Covers the windscreen and front side windows of all vehicles ![]() Since my mate doesn't have the black car with the beige interior (I bought it instead ) She won't be getting tints now.Al |

I used to work at a Luxury Vehicle retailer. Basically the Manufacturer of the vehicle tints all the screens as standard to the limit of the law. Now, as it stands, from the 'B' post backwards you can do whatever you please, turning your car into a hearse or a circus wagon! The windscreen and the two front door windows must not be altered in any way (except to lighten/reduce the tint, ie plain glass) The Police can and will, do roadside checks with a lightmeter applied to each side of the glass. If the reading at this point is below the specified limit, the tint has to be removed immediately for you to continue to use that vehicle from that point. If you can't remove it then and there, you go home by bus and your car is impounded. As Alexander from Meercat.com says.." Simples" Mike |

at the roadside surely it would be easier to just remove the door cards and take out the glass, i cant imagine peeling off tint film is easy. unless its illegal to not have front windows, in which case you could carry some untinted glass in your boot? |

"Sorry Officer, just coming back from a Car Show, forgot to change me bleedin' front windows AGAIN! Aren't I silly?" You know a mod isn't worth it when you have to carry around the same part (unmodified) as a spare... |

Mind you, some of the officers who stops you cause of the tinted windows, they have them on their car!! Once a police officer have stopped a friend of mine cause of the tints, 2 weeks later I saw him with his Toyota Celica cruising around with his windows Super Dark!

what happens if the police pull you over for dark tints and you just wind down both your front windows then claim they are broke and you cant do them up again? would that work? be easier for those with electric windows as you could just wire in a hidden switch which disables the front windows. so you could 'prove' they wont do up again. |

yeh, a little annoying when its minus 8 and you've got to drive like you've got 10 kilo's of 'dusty showbiz' in the boot, everytime you see a copper you hit all the window buttons in one go. On the plus side, you can expose yourself to passers by and they wont be none the wiser, if thats what your into like |

Hmmm, don't know what shade to go for on mine Always loved the look of yours Chris but I want to keep it reasonably legal. I was thinking a 35% on the rear doors and the rear window and a 70% on the fronts. |
