' Orange peel '; rectify s bad spray job?

Another question about the new black 2.0.

The rear wing (passengers side) has been re-sprayed by a baboon (reason unknown)
Its all ' orange peely ' dimpled and rubbish. she looks like she's got cellulite :(

Is there an easy way to sort it? the colour match is good. Can I use some sort of rubbing compound or is it a case of sand down and start again?

Sand it down with 2500 grid of sandpaper, and important to use water with it. Make sure that you dont sand it a lot. You need to sand it just to get mat, or better to remove the orange peel. Than a good polish and buffer. I suggest you use G3 polish.


Be careful that when using the buffer you dont leave it dry, have spray bottle full of water and after some time, spray on the buffer and on the panel.

You can safely go down to a 1500 grit. You need to wet sand the area flat, note, you are only wet sanding the clear coat. Get it so it smooth. You will see the high and low points as you go.

orange peel effect is largely due to bad prep work. if the surface you're spraying hasn't been prepped properly, the paint will look rubbish no matter how well it's sprayed. it's a rub-down and re-spray if it's going to look right...

Its actually down to a few factors, including mainly, incorrect air pressure which causes bad atomization, wrong fluid cap or needle, poor temperature conditions when paint is applied, incorrect gun speed and distance or incorrectly mixed paint.
