Chaps (& Ladies); I'm trying to pull out the battery to change the fuel pump relay and it appears to be stuck. I can't get a decent picture up. Anyone got a pic of the way they are tied down? The whole area is full of leaves and crap and while I'm sure the process is simple enough, the only bolt/pin I can see on the forward rim of the battery casing has sheared and it still won't budge. Is it possible to hoik out the FPR without pulling the battery?

Robert, you should be able to pull the relay out with moving the battery, its a bit fiddly, but it should come out

There should be a nut at the rear of the tray, see here,

Yes to be fair you can remove the plastic cover behind the battery and remove fuel pump relay pretty easily. Tends to be held in quite firm sometimes though. Battery should have one clip at the front holding the bottom of it down.

2 nuts at rear, one in the front which also holds the battery bracket.

good idea removing it as there is nearly always rust under there

if the bolts are badly coroded then use a dremmel and split the 2 nuts

Vacuum cleaner with the long pointy nozzle makes short work of all the leaves and crud around your battery/scuttlepanel/brake servo & fusebox area..

Thank you gentlemen! Kicking myself after buying the relay before reading Mazza's post on using an Evo relay, but Brunhilde is destined to be the original-spec garage Queen, so I can't complain.

If you find the battery tray and bolts that hold it in are rotty, order a new one from the dealer.
We did this on aaron44 2.5 16v, cleaned the leaves and removed the batt to find the tray was fooked from probably
acid etc, got him to order a new one & now all that area is new and fresh...

Good idea to put some copper slip on the bolts when refitting, this should make life easier when removing tray next time.

I like the sound of that. I've had a quick look but no luck yet, can someone point me in the right direction.

It's q. possible I rec'd a different battery tray before, when I did Bertha's, but this seems a bit different. Dunno, frankly, but it is a very vulnerable area and the battery tray is detachable (rather like the front wings) for that reason. I'll work my way through it, but meanwhile, thanks all..

^^^ Indeed he did, and very useful it is - I had been looking in the wrong section. I'll sort it out eventually, I'm sure. All I know is, that if I took it to M-B they would not know how to do that!

Quite, Nick. Such a pity, given that we love their cars so much. When they are running right.
