Hello to all, i dont post much on this forum but am always on it reading different threads, they've helped me alot and offered me great knowlegde about these cars. ..not to mention the joke thread over on the gentleman's lounge make my days at work very pleasant! hehe So the reason for this thread is: I currently got an aftermaket grill installed on my car (the one with the big star emblem on the grill and no loral leaf or star emblem on the frame) And not long ago i got my hands on a OEM grill insert painted black, i absolutly love the look. Now my problem is: I've installed a loral leaf emblem on the hood of the car (You can see it on my avatar pic) So i need a grill frame that does't have the loral leaf or star emblem holes on it. Or else it would just be overkill with all those emblems.. I know of the schatz grill, very smooth and simple.. But unfortunaly i cant find one ANYWHERE! I've looked and looked, but with no luck. I'm from Montreal, Canada, And i've been told that those grills sometimes pop up in Europe. So i was wondering if anybody on here have 1 for sale? that they can ship to Canada.. Or perhaps you have a OEM grill but with the holes patches up and closed up. Would any of you possibly have such a grill for sale?? Or know were i could possibly find a schatz grill? Any help would be much appreciated, Many thanks, Ivan K. Edited by ivan820, Fri Mar 20, 2009 3:22 pm.

^^ It means they are VERY rare and quite hard to get hold of! German eBay is going to be your best bet, or once in a purple moon it MIGHT just show up on UK eBay as it has known to before. To my knowledge, there is no where that actually stocks them anymore.... or there is, and none of us have found it yet! ![]()

ahh i see haha, I thought he meant that grill looked like horse manure apologies for the misunderstanding.humm.. Its a shame they are so rare, they're absolutly beautiful those grills. I guess i'll keep looking on ebays, ...but in the end i'm predicting that i'll just get an OEM frame and have a body shop fill up the holes and color match the car. Many thanks for all your help guys, much appreciated! Ivan K. |

^^ perhaps you can get them do that for the mean time until you manage to get your hands on a Schatz grill frame? Then you have the choice of a few grills and can mix it up a little whenever you feel like it. You considered another type of grill, Avantagarde/S600 grill? - or are you pretty much set on getting your hands on a Schatz? |

Best bet is to set up a search on German ebay for w201 Schatz, that way you don't have to keep browsing for it. I did the same for a m103 manifold, and receive updates whenever one is for sale. |

oh great! i didn't know that was possible, thanks alot bri I've been fliping thru 250 pages of results for W201.... I must say i'm heart broken that some of this stuff is not on the US ebay. I dont know how many complete sportline interiors and 16V interiors are for sale (All of which looks absolutly mint) ...but shipping will cost an absolute fortune to Canada... so i can only dream. ..and that Wald body kit over on the UK site is far too tempting hehe, but once again the shipping charges will put a hold on that dream as well. Many thanks! |

I want the OEM grill insert painted black with the 1 vertical and 2 horizontal chrome strips, i find that looks amazing I purchased the Avant garde grill insert not long ago from Ebay but sold it soon after because i found it looked far too cheap and "Plastiquy" and not to mention the paint (which was not even straight) had already started to bublle on it... and it was still in the box sealed! hehe. What i'm looking for is simply the grill frame without any holes for emblems, completly smoothed out. I'd like to put the OEM grill insert and have it look as clean and simple as possible. i saw a couple of examples in the Grill picture thread and fell absolutly in love with that look. It compliments the car's smooth straight lines very nicely |

Yeah some of those "Avantagarde" grills off eBay will do that i'm afraid... ![]() You might be better off getting an S600 grill and cutting it down (that's what i've got on mine) The car above is Bart's, lovely looking car with a 'clean' look to it. I think you're probably better off in that direction for the time being as it's going to be quite easy to achieve and it looks great! Can't go wrong with that eh?

hehe you really cant, its absolutly beautiful, i've got the exact same paint color too so now my mind is set. I must duplicate that grill hehe. The frame he has though, it originally had the emblem holes right? The owner(Bart) simply filled and patched them up. |

That frame looks really nice painted. I found one maybe a year or two ago on UK ebay for a good price. Snapped that right up. Going to mount it colour coded 735 silver with the best quality mesh I can find, and in the appropriate size too, nothing too "open" but not too fine either, might even do 2 different layers or something. Keep looking Ivan they are out there

I know, i cant wait to see what it looks like in 199 Blue-Black. It drives me crazy, i saw 1 for sale about 1-2 months ago on german ebay but I didn't act fast enough. I think it sold for 120 euros. The mesh on the grill would look nice! Just as long as you dont make it look too much like a 300C hehe. Personally i'm going with the standard OEM insert painted black.. you just cant beat that out of the factory look Thank you Dave! i wont loose hope! |

It will work for a de-starring of the grille, but the Schatz one is quite a bit deeper than the standard one, and slopes down more at the front, rather than the rectangular angles of the standard one. Gives it a bit of a "mouth" ![]() You need to see it from the side to get the difference. |
