I'm thinking of spraying my door handles black. Do I really need to remove them?? I don't have that spare time to remove the four handles, or it is an easy job? I surely know that I have to remove the door cards etc etc...

I'm thinking of cover up properly the surround of the handles and spray them up.

Any thoughts please?

very easy job and yes you do have to do it otherwise they will flake

open the door and pop out the black rubber cirle thing,

stick an alan key in and take out the screw, handles will then lift out (you will need to turn the key 45* for hte fronts to come out)

Have you tried a quality restoring product such as Auto Glym Bumper Care (Pic C/O Neil)?

If you do decide to repaint, take them off, it will always produce a better finished article. Also check out the finish used by member 'Cra_arc' it was a plasticized type of finish and looked really good in the flesh - you'll have to dig a bit through his posts to find it though.

I would say yes. Its really not hard to remove unless you find the allen bolt seized, which most aren't.

They can be removed very quickly if you get a long handled allen key like this :-
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180339076280

Mine was a couple of quid delivered. I can have all the handles off in under 5 minutes now. If your very careful you dont need to remove the doorcard. Just leave the allen bolt so its not totally removed but held in by about 1-2 turns. The only slow bit is finding the angle to remove the lock from the fronts but its not hard once you have done it once. Because the paint I use sticks to anything I also spray the rubber bits between the handle and the door.

Once a week in my experience, if they are badly faded.

yeah, thats why I asked. I used back2black on mine a few times, once a month or so and then had to prep them really carefully to ensure it was all removed before I decided to spray them instead. I guess it depends on how faded they are to start with.

Indeed. The ones on my valver are seriously faded  light grey in fact :o Im sure they are dark grey and not black from new though so im not sure whether to paint them black, along with all the other grey bits, or go for a dark grey paint.

Hmmmm, decisions decisions ^o)

Have a look here, and see how bad they are:

I think they really need a spray. Or just with Auto Glym, and they are back to black? But I dunno..

Yep, get the old hot air gun on plastics to re flow the plastic on the surface. But don't heat one spot for too long

will uber hot hairdryer do the job or does it need real heat from a gun ?

Hmmm, needs to be a hot air gun really. Never tried with a hair drier to be honest. You won't do any harm to try though.

I dont think my hairdryer has ever been used for hair. Only heatshrinking, drying clothes in a hurry and attempting to remove damn nasty friggin spoilers :(

I don't have a hot air gun. Will a clipper lighter do if i quickly move it up and down the handle

I do have a blow torch though. Il try that in the morning :) Do you think it might damage the paint round the handles lmao
