Sorry if this is in the wrong place (Mods please move if necessary) but I would like to improve the under bonnet sound deadening material on my 190.

Any ideas/suggestions gratefully appreciated, thanks, Mike

i don't even have the basic covering lol. On the boot I have used BROWN BREAD which i bought from Maplins. its a sound deadening thing like Dyna-Mat. it toughens up the metal and is foil backed so i guess you could use it under the hood.

Mine came from mercedes Hull 01482 027788, they delivered it, but will also post to you. There is probably a merc dealer closer to you though!. The Hull staff are a great bunch. Note: they don,t have adhesive, i bought that from Halfords.(but read the instructions before you buy, RE THE HEAT RANGE)

I reckon if your paying £65 for a bonnet pad ,they can afford to give extra discount, unless its a different type of bonnet pad, whats the part number of yours?. the only one that mercedes Hull sell is the one for the noisey diesel engine, which is perfect fit for the petrol engine.

Q: With the extra weight of this material under the bonnet, can the single strut handle it all safely? :ermm:

It better be! Otherwise I'll be forced to buy a trolley jack to open the bonnet. :'( Lol just kidding. :)

Thanks for the contact details! But what HEAT RANGE are you referring to?

Might compare it as well with Kentonix's. Cheers!

For glue I used a tin of timebond, about £7-9 I think from halfords, it took a full tin.

If you have a weak bonnet strut its possible you may find it no longer sits at half height. True it doesnt weigh much but the length of the bonnet multiplies this. If your strut is ok then you will be fine. Mine was borderline and now it tends to drift down. My w124 pad is probably very slightly heavier than the w201 though, judging by the price difference anyway :)

All adhesives are not suitable to be used where heat is present , Halfords have one that is suitable up to 45c plasti -Kote heavy duty.

They're not cheap are they, and unless you swap the bonnet as well you can't really get a second hand one! Damn it.

Not cheap, but tbh they appear to last 10+ years!
The W124 ones look really, really good.
Kenny and mb5032 have them.

I got a full pad from a diesel from Merc for £23, but this was in 2002 or something.
Made no difference, not a discernable one anyway.
I think encasing the engine in glue may work.
