ive got a Schatz sport grille insert which i got second hand a couple of months ago. Its got quite a few chips on it which shows up the numerous coats of paint its had, black, primer, red then more black. I dont really fancy just putting another coat on it as its already starting to loose definition where paint has built up. So other than getting the sand paper out does anyone know of anything that can strip paint off of plastics without melting it? |

Nitro-Mors will take all the paint off, I used it on my wheels, it's great. You would need to check it's use for plastic though. Does the Schatz use a custom grill? I always though it was just the frame that was schatz? Edited by RM Merc 190, Tue Apr 21, 2009 6:06 pm.

Personally i would have it blasted using a water cabinet and plastic medium....nitromors and thinners will weaken the plastic, or reduce it to a puddle of gunge on the floor. I did mine in the cabinet and it came up perfectly and nicely keyed for plastic primer too ![]() |

tried using caustic oven cleaner which softened the top layer of paint, the further coats were a little more difficult so i got on it wih the nitro-mors. I took a couple of layers and a lot of scraping to get most of it off, then finished by hand with sandpaper. The plastic was noticably softer and the whole thing seemed a little bit more flexible but nothing has deformed, hopefully a few layers of primer and paint should help stiffen it back up.
