hi there all
i have a 1984 190e and i need a new front right wing, bumper, bumper mount, light etc

and i need pretty much a whole new exhaust system + some other little bits

ive found a donor car (£350) but i dont know whether to buy it or not because i dont know if it will fit my car

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1005904.htm

thats the donor car, looks all well and good but he says the engine is packing up, blue clouds of smoke coming out the exhaust???? and its wallowing over 60mph (i dont know what wallowing means).

so yea should i get it or not? atm im driving my old school h reg 1.3 polo saloon and its killing me!!!! need my 190 back!

I think the front wings are different on the 84-88 models. Don't count me on that though...

Face lift....confuses the hell out of me. Now I know mine is a 'facelift' 1991 model, but apart from the cladding what else changed?

Is there a thread anywhere showing the physical differences, in their entirity?

Ideally, I'd like to see a photo of each, pre & post, so I can see the changes...any chance?

the only change to the outside as far as i know was the addition of the side panelings and change in bumpers everything else is the same i think at the same time the 1.8 came out but not sure but throughout the cars life the chassis and panels never changed apart from the valvers they have slightly different bits and the very early ones had a single windscreen washer

this could all be made up in alans world of course but i think its right lol

I may stand be corrected but I'm pretty sure from what I have read in the past that the very earlier pre face list models such as the one you have from 1984 had a different bonnet and different front wings.

So if this is the case, not even any pre facelift would have front wings which you could use, you would need to find a very early pre facelift as a donor car.

In the pre-facelift model there are not any room at the rear!!! Good room in front, but farely small in the rear!

One of the disadvantages ive found in my car!

The interiors got a make over with different seats with better adjustment and style too. And the latter cars have adjustable seat belt height in the front.

I think the differences between the wings, and doors for that matter, is that the holes for the cladding on the later cars are in the wrong place for the early rubbing strip, and visa versa.

crap, so finding a new wing is gona be harder than i thought :/ need one desperatly, mine is single wiper, so its the pre pre facelift???? im so confused. also mine dosnt have side repeaters is this standard or do you think some one has smoothed it?

lesson learnt, dont buy a rare'ish car when your 18 and not in a full time job...AND DONT CRASH IT!!

only thing i can think of doing thats gona be easier is to buy almost a complete new front end???

still got my parents + the girlfirend + quite a few of my mates telling me to scrap it!! i just tell them to shut it :)

They all have a single wiper. The very early ones didn't have the panoramic system and just had a wiper that only swept in a semi circular movement. Also the very early ones lie yours, didn't have the side repeaters fitted. When i bought some new front wings from the dealers for my pre face lift 2.6, i only found out that they didn't have the holes cut for the repeaters until after i got them back from the body shop :o  i just fitted them anyway and love the look of the car without any side repeaters B)

You can still use the wings from a post face lift car, you will probably just have to fill the holes from the sacco boards etc etc.

I'm only really here for the Kitchens

I think they are talking about the squirters. Later cars have 2 squirters each firing two streams. Early ones have a single central squirter. It means the bonnets have holes in different place.

There is a thread with all the differences somewhere.
