Fair play jeremy - it was your first time on the track and you nailed the apex on many a corner, just a shame the black series had a bit more speed on the straights! Although i did like you tactics of spreading dirt over bobby's hairpin to slow the competition. Shame you cant see the fear of god look in my face on the second vid!
Again thanks for the ride - will make sure i have the almandine ready for next time - think its only a few months until the next one!

Looks great fun! Am really tempted to have a go at some track days myself, however I fear in my 1.8 I'd just be holding people up, would this be a problem?

What do you do about insurance?

thanks

I was actually there parked up on the display stand with the Performance 206 club, and one guy took a 1.4 litre 206 out, which is maybe only a tiny bit quicker than a 190E 1.8.
The SL60 AMG out there was a bit of a mobile chicane because the guy was obviously being careful. I think in a 190E 1.8 you'd be quicker than some people out there having tuition (generally done in slowish cars) and stuff. Get to it ;).

Few other pics/vids from the day:

I'm not sure why my photos have all washed out, not very sharp and all too over exposed or something. Perhaps the settings but don't think so. Maybe I damaged the lens by cleaning it (softly) with my jumper.
Only saw a few cars have damage or break down but its always a risk.

What I was asking Jeremy was, is that the rev limited in 2nd or 3rd? I think it must be 2nd (circa 65mph)? As top of third would be 90 which is high!
Myself I think I took that bend in third, then kept it in third for the straight where it was geared to just very very nearly brush against the rev limiter before you had to brake for the chicane.

Russell, you are right, it's the limiter in second, I've been practising my healing & toeing, and can do it pretty quickly nowadays so I often go down to second to help with the braking. silly really, cos then I only go another 50-100 yards with my foot down before having to change up to third.

When on track with the 16V, the power band is between 4500-6500 so a lot of changing is required, to avoid the limiter, sometimes I forget!!!

Really Castle Combe is a 3rd/4th track all the way, but if you get baulked at the chicanes or when people ahead of you brake early then you need second ,and as passing under braking is a absolute no-no on a day like that,(it's a red card offence), then there is much to think about for your first time there.

Cant wait for next time tho' June 6th.

Wow that looks like fantastic fun. I want a go :)

Then come along. :ehh: :S

Two surprising things happened on the day, there is a silver AMG SL 65 (or something) with the reg no F4STR in one of the pics, and the chap who owned it stopped by and said he thought my car looked and sounded terrific, and the second thing was that one of my passengers was the regional officer on the M-B-Club Gerald Phillpots, who said that he didnt think anyone could make my car lap faster than I did. (BIg 'ead!... ok , sorry)

he was a really nice bloke, parked up next to me in the M-B-Club section, I did manage to keep him behind me for ummm, about one & a half laps!

550+hp = V. fast on the straights. although 2050 kg's = only 5 good laps before the brakes cooked!!!(2 Tons ferchrissakes!!)

There's no way its that heavy.. 1760kg is what I'm seeing - still too heavy (current m3 is 1605kg).
You'd think the brakes would last longer.
