hi all, i have been giving the 16v a right going over and found a lake ( not even joking) in the spare wheel well, i can see a water mark on the side with the ariel bu nothing to indicate the copius amount of water in the well ( no pun intended) any ideas chaps as there is no rust round the rear screen and the seal seems in tact

How are the shut-lines around the boot?
Is it properly aligned?
Seriously, a few mm out can cause a leak even if the seal itself is fine.

A good idea is to take out the plastic boot liners for now, and unclog or replace the rubber 'grommets' in the drain holes ;)

Best way, although not comfortable  is to lay in the boot if you can, or get someone else to and then run a hose over the car and see if you can see where the water is coming in from.

...dressed in 8" Stilettos, with you locked inside, in a gimp suit.
Max Moseley does it all the time, it's about 300 quid an hour.

Possibilities (off the top of my head ;))

Sunroof drains (as Matt has mentioned :) )

Alignment of boot/main boot seal (as mentioned by Neil :) )

Seal around the boot lock (unlikely to be main culprit, it's fairly small)

Rear screen seals?

Electric aerial?

Or, my favourite - rear spoiler (leaks through the mounting holes etc) :D

Rear light gaskets another possibility.

Might be others, but that gives you something to start with ;)

Good luck, and let us know the outcome B)
