I was hoping someone on here with expert guru knowledge could confirm if they believe the 2.6 and 3.0 downpipes are the same diameter and fitment? I an talking about the down pipe from a 3.0 S Class W126 or E class W124? I know lengths may be different but I was really after pipe diameters and fitment from manifold to how it bends under the floor pan....... I probably should just stick with the 2.6 downpipe but this is for a 3.0 conversion I am after doing on the 2.6 Si |

I am not sure but I think they are different, I cant tell you in what way though. Speak to tendai (username:taint), he will know the exact difference. I stuck with the complete 2.6 system but I am aware its a restriction. Since developing a hole in the downpipes I can actually feel there is more power. Clearly a bottle neck somewhere. |

Ah Kenny new you would be about on this one!! I damn well just missed the opurtunity to buy a 3.0 lump last night for a very cheap sum....... well you win some and lose some ehh... I am torn between buying a standard 2.6 downpipe and getting the car on the road or just saying f**k it and going to whole hog with the conversion........ Thanks for the advice though |

I went the simple route and havent given it a moments thought until recently. If it means you get it done and on the road I would probably get the stock 2.6 exhaust on and then get it down to get a stainless system at a later date. I think tendai had the 3.0 manifold and exhaust on, or at least thought about it. As its from a 300e it obviously required the length chopping but I have no idea about the bore I am afraid. I assume its larger but dont really know. |

hey! why not go with the AMG exhaust system found in the 3.2 and 3.4 units and maybe have it decated, you could get one made for a reasonable amount and its going to last for a while. http://www.detali.ru/cat/OEM_MB2.asp?TP=1&F=124031&M=104.980&GA=722.359501&GM=717.450&cat=15S&SID=49&SA=+77015&STRK=02 mazza |

Thanks Mazza great idea I may just get a stainless system made but I do not want pipe hanging down under the rear valance, so would want a system that looks alomost standard or if it did have pipe exiting the rear valance I want then to be neat and tucked up as far as poss. ![]() |

Ok another Q when did Mercedes start fitting Cat's to the 2.6 engine 190's mine is a 1990 and I am 100% sure there is no cat cause I have looked but does anyone know if there are more than one variation of exhaust downpipe for the 2.6 reason is I am finding it suprisingly hard to find a downpipe even new (Bar going main dealer thats not an option for me right now) |

I've got a 1990 2.6 and I'm 100% certain is has a CAT, but it's a US spec car so it's probably different. |
