ok ive searched but it has taken me all night and im still not convinced with what i have found. Maybe it will help people if the correct fluid specs are listed here in one place with peoples opinions on what is best. so what is the correct type and amount for: engine oil: 5w40/10w40 5L(?) PAS fluid: DexronII ..L SLS fluid: ZHM Febi-Bilstein 2 bottles is plenty Brake fluid: DOT 4 1L for flush(?) Diff oil: ????? Getrag oil: 85W40(?) ...L any other fluids that I have missed off? PLEASE NOTE: these are only my guesses from searches on here. Hopefully more experienced people will note on this thread what is correct. Edited by newowner, Wed Jun 3, 2009 10:36 pm.

excellent idea for a thread, although the fluids are not the same for all engines. Diesels are different as are the 16v. at some point we should define which engine its for. |

i thought it was a good idea too but there doesn't seem to be too much action yet...................!! i was hoping for info on a 16v but maybe if people headed the post with the car/engine they are doing the list for that would help |

OK, here's what I have. It's what I'm using in my '92 2.0: engine oil: 5 litres - 10w/40 semi-synthetic (5l brought mine up to half full on the dip stick) PAS fluid: Mercedes PAS fluid - 1l Brake fluid: DOT4 - 1l Diff oil: SAE 90 - 1.1l Gearbox oil: 85w/40 - 1.5l I haven't changed the last two yet, so don't know the quantities. I think gearbox is 4L and diff varies from 0.7 to 1.1L. Depends on the year. I ll have a look in the Haynes manual later tonight. |

This is what I use. 2.6 with 192k miles (original valve stem oil seals, so it uses a bit of oil) engine: Havoline Premium 15W-40, 6 litres (from Morrison's) Auto Gearbox: Fuchs Titan ATF 3000, 6 litres, from GSF 2.6 Sportline with 110k miles & new valve stem seals at 96k miles engine: Comma XT2000 15W-40 Semi-synthetic (from a neighbour who buys in bulk) Auto Gearbox: Castrol TQ Dextron 111 (7.5 litres according to the invoice from the M-B specialist who rebuilt the gearbox) Diff: M-B Universal Hypoid gear oil SAE 85W-90 1.1 litres (from main dealer) Use the above diff oil on both cars |
