Hello all I am new to the site, and have not long bought a k plated 190 2L auto. It has a problem of stalling when approaching junctions. The car will re start no problems and then drive fine for a while, then all of a sudden it will stall again when braking for a junction, this can prove quite dangerous in certain circumstances! I have had it into a garage who can't find what is wrong with it. I have checked the vacuum pipes, and fuel pump etc, which are all fine. The fuel filter has just been changed. Does anyone have any ideas?? |

Sounds to me like it's an intermittent electrical problem, possible a loose connection in the ignition system somewhere. When you say stall, are you saying it dies or just cuts out? If it's a lack of fuel it tends to splutter and die, which would point to the fuel pump. The trouble with electrical problems particularly intermittent ones is tracking them down, I'd start with the connections from the battery and then look at the connections to the ignition system, possible pulling multiplugs apart and refitting to see if that helps. The fact that it only happens under braking makes me think it's a loose connection but where? If nothing is obvious or makes a difference I think you may need the services of an auto-electrician. the fact that it only happens when you take your foot off the pedal comming upto lights then would suggest its more down to the cars setup than an actual fault as it would do it at anytime whilst driving |

I had that problem on my 2.5-16 auto last year. Dangerous and scary. AFM plate not seating properly was the culprit. Edited by Michael, Mon Jul 13, 2009 11:25 pm.

Also there is a pipe below the k-jet base, its rubber and forms part of the idle air circuit. This perishes and falls off or becomes loose. Very common as it gets plastered with oil etc over the years. Basically allows the car to go very lean at idle and cut out . Autos just cut out and you lose pas and brake servo. |

Thanks guys, Im going to do a bit of investigating this afternoon. Can I ask, where is the K-Jet, and what does it do? The car just dies, no spluttering or hesitation. |

Its the main fuel distribution system, to the right of the engine bay as you look in. Its below the airbox. it is a large unit on top of the inlet manifold. The pipe you need to check pushes into the rubber boot underneath the whole unit. Another thing to check may be the idle air control valve. |

Hi you may have a dodgy throttle switch! give it a clean and a little wd40 spray, they are not very expensive to replace. the throttle swicth shuts fuel on deceleration, if its not working properly it will shut the fuel completly. http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.asp?TP=1&F=201028&M=102.98_14G&GA=722.408&GM=717.413&CT=M&cat=14G&SID=07&SGR=135&SGN=03 item 41 mazza |

Kitt Solved this scary problem on my 2.6 by cleaning Rotary Idle Actuator (think the 4 cyl has Auxiliary Air Device for same function), and replacing Coolant Temp Sensor. Also check the OVP relay and its fuse. Also recommend resetting the ECU. Have a look at how I learned from advice from others in my posts last January. Good luck. JL |

I wonder whether it would be worth putting it on rollersjust to see how much of the fault is dependent on car inertia, rather than just engine deceleration. If it's a loose electrical connection, decelerating on rollers would have no effect I'm guessing, and point more definitively towards KITT's suggestions. Just a thought anyhow.
